It's getting there!

I have done a lot of work in my sewing room over the past couple of days. The rolled fabrics are still not measured... yes, I KNOW they need to be done! Instead, I hauled them out into the hallway and leaned them against the stair rail on the landing outside the sewing room door. Now I will have to look at them daily. That wasn't the reason I moved them, but it is a fortunate by-product. I moved them so that I could start arranging things at the back of the sewing room. I moved a bunch of stuff around though there are still 4 or 5 boxes still in the middle of the room. I unpacked a few others before moving the rolls and realized that unpacking wasn't helping if you didn't have anywhere to put the unpacked stuff! Now that things are getting put into place, I can see that I am going to have a great deal of space in the middle of the room. This is good news! I have two tables on either side of the door, one for sewing and one for painting/artsy stuff. I was afraid I was going to have to clear off one of those whenever I needed to layout fabric, patterns etc. That would have been sucky because they are against a wall. Now, I can just erect my large folding table in the middle of the room and have plenty of room to walk around it. Yay!

My hooped petticoats are proving to be a bit of a problem. Why are they so unruly! Currently they are sort of twisted up and being held by big binder clips which really aren't that effective. I think I need to sew bags and twist them into that. That might work. For now, they are stuffed into the space between the top shelf and the ceiling but could pop out and overtake the room again at any moment.

I also realized that I have a bunch of stuff that I will probably never use. For example, I bought a bunch of fiberfill stuff to do a duct tape dummy, but it ended up being tougher than I thought! Plus, the smell of the tape was making me sick. It smelled like cigarette smoke! I knew that a) I couldn't stand to be around it and b) I would hate for something I was sewing to absorb that smell. So I chucked it. Not sure if I will try again with different tape or not. I also have faux fur that I purchased for trimming burgundy style gowns, lining sleeves etc. But... it isn't exactly as it was described (I bought it on ebay ages ago). It is more like teddy bear fur. There is also some beautiful fabrics that have larger woven patterns that I am not sure would translate well into costume. Maybe something like 18th century, but I am not sure. But what to do with it? Selling on ebay can be such a pain. I don't really have an outlet to sell at a boot sale or something (at least not that I am aware of).

What I need is another seamstress to come in and look at my stuff and give me an objective opinion!
