The linen I ordered for David's garb came today. That was pretty fast considering it came from the US. :) I have 8 yards of black and 6 yards of gold medium weight linen. He already has a pair of black chausses so I am thinking a black underdoublet (cotehardie whatever), a gold cotte with either bag sleeves or pendant sleeves and a black hood. I'd really like to do some dagging on the hood but I that that will be a pain and will take too much time in the linen.
Which brings me to a question... What sort of wool fabric should I get if I want to full it enough to be able to cut it without finishing the edge? I'd really love to do a hood and cotte with a complicated dagging. I've looked at some 100% wool felt but it's expensive and well... it's felt which is kind of blah. I know that worsted won't full and that I should use a woolen... but not sure what that means in modern terms. I've seen some lovely wool twills but not sure if they would full. Can anyone advise me? Thanks!
