My year in review (better late than never)

Jan 07, 2011 17:03

1. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?
Went to NMEDA in Reno, got a speeding ticket (from a real policeman, not a camera), went to Central America, bought a pair of Prada shoes, adopted Bengal, went on a shoe diet, and I think that’s about it.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I think I resolved to open my mail, but I for sure didn’t keep it. I would love to resolve to be on time but we all know it isn’t going to happen.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No babies this year unfortunately. Someone (other than me) needs to procreate! My baby nephew is about to be two and will shortly be a little boy instead of a baby. This is unacceptable behavior.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
My Niblet.

5. What countries did you visit?
I went to Costa Rica in May with Glorita.

6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
More money, more discipline, and more time.

7. What date from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
July 19th, because Niblet died on the anniversary of my mom’s death.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I completed my last college class on February 4th.

9. What was your biggest failure?
I interviewed for several jobs and didn’t get any of them. This was a new and very humbling experience for me.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
The Great Ankle Incident of 2010 was the only thing that happened. And it was only serious in the sense that I couldn’t wear heels for 3 weeks.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
The iPhone 4 (I’m an addict).

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Mine, because I am awesome.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Ever since I stopped dating and befriending my dad, I’ve noticed that people don’t appall and depress me anymore. It’s such a relief! It’s the one thing I learned from therapy, and it was priceless.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Spent lots on my vacation to Costa Rica, but otherwise I would say my money went to a worthless mortgage payment and stupid student loans.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Costa Rica and completing my college classes.

16. What song will always remind you of 2010?
OMG there were too many really terrible songs that were totally overplayed on the radio to even start. Like what about ANYTHING by Katy Perry? Or that dumb broad who has a dollar sign in her name? And that Bruno Mars song about the girl he loves just the way she is. I want to slap that fucking girl and tell her to get some goddamn self-esteem!

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder?
Happier! 2010 was SO MUCH BETTER than 2009.

ii. thinner or fatter?
Staying the same, seems like I’ve topped (or bottomed) out in my 30’s. *sigh*

iii. richer or poorer?
Poorer. You try loosing nearly $90k in the value of your home and see how rich you feel.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Although I do volunteer on average at two AAWL events per month, I wish I had been able to do more. I’ve gotten really passionate about animal welfare (not passionate enough to stop eating meat, but still, I feel passion!) and wish I could do more to make a difference in the lives of homeless and abused animals.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
There isn’t anything I did in 2010 that was so bad I wish I hadn’t done it.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I spent Christmas in Queen Creek with my family. It was a long and very loud day. Boxing Day was way better. I had a 1 ½ hour massage, went out to breakfast, went antique shopping (bought myself a sparkly!) and saw Black Swan.

21. Did you fall in love in 2010?
I fell in like with Manfriend. We will see if it turns into love in 2011. We’re moving slooooooooooooow and slow is good! Plus, I’m not sure if I can fall in love with someone who is THAT terrible at Scrabble.

22. How many one-night stands?
None.

23. What was your favorite TV program?
Gleeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nope, pretty much still hate the same exact shitty people as I did last year. Thankfully they are permanently out of my life!

25. What was the best book you read?
I’m going to go with the Millennium trilogy.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Lady Gaga. I know I’m late to the party, but I think she’s a genius.

27. What did you want and get?
A trip to Costa Rica, and a manfriend.

28. What did you want and not get?
A new job and a new house.

29. What was your favorite film of this year?
Black Swan, without a freaking doubt. But, Inception was very cool as was The Social Network.

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 32 and had a penis-free dinner at Hanny’s downtown and then a very penis-filled dance party at “da club”. It was super fun.

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Finding gainful employment somewhere else would have been nice because the stress over my student loan bills is wearing me down. But, in this economy I am definitely grateful to have a job I somewhat enjoy and work with people whom I like (most of the time).

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
I don’t seem to have a personal fashion concept now that I’m in my 30’s. I certainly don’t follow trends any longer. I prefer to buy high-quality clothes that are timeless. And then wear super high heels.

33. What kept you sane?
Lots and lots of pinot grigio.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I’m currently obsessed with Natalie Portman due to her portrayal of Nina in Black Swan. Otherwise, forever and always I love me some Christian Bale. Can’t wait to see The Fighter!

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
On the national scene: DADT was finally repealed! Legalizing gay marriage is next, baby! On the local scene: SB1070 can lick my butt hole.

36. Who did you miss?
As always, my mom. And now, my Niblet.

37. Who was the best new person you met?
I’m probably supposed to say Manfriend. But I’m going to go with Erica, who was my yoga teacher before she decided to go ex-pat and move to Italy to be with her very own manfriend. She is great, and while not in my life for long, she added a lot to it.

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010:
2010 was so very much better than 2009 in so very many ways it’s hard to articulate it into any sort of “life lesson.” Let’s suffice it to say that as 2011 dawns I go forward with a spring in my step, a light heart and a hopeful outlook.
