I still haven't forgotten that I owe a few people detailed responses from a couple of posts down. I just had to share this:
"God forbid if there's even the slightest hint about my credentials," Nance says over tea in a Washington coffee shop. "You will see a spectacle on C-Span. I'll impugn [my attacker's] credibility in public. Let's see him give 20 years in the military, give up his family life, and then he can come talk. If not, shut the hell up." Seriously. If you read nothing else today, read that article. It's very short - just a little brief, really - and at the end, you will all want Michael Nance to run for president.
Mukasey is scum. Fortunately, he is scum who doesn't appear to be headed toward Attorney-General-dom.
Casey: I'm singling you out as the anthropologist on my friends list. Have you read any Michael Taussig? I'm currently reeling in the aftermath of "Shamanism, Colonialism, and the Wild Man." Must be the most difficult thing I've ever read - and so prophetic in light of this torture debate.
One of these days I'll update on what's going on in my life, but as it is, there's not much: eat, sleep, study, read the news when there's time. And right now, I should really be sleeping.
