I agree with Miss Chrysty, but how about just "boy".

When I was writing about dobhran first, I just used an initial. Not his real initial, but one that made sense to both of us, and I could use consistantly.

Whatever you use, needs to feel right to you, or it won't fit the flow of your writing.
