B and I just celebrated our first wedding anniversary on the 10th. Our first milestone of many.
My job is great although a little different from the last time I posted. I am a Dust-Off pilot flying UH-1 Huey helicopters. The mission of my unit is medical evacuation, i.e. medivac. I never get tired of flying medivac missions. We pickup injured soldiers and civilians anywhere in Northern New York. Most of the time we land at the scene of the accident and then rush the patient to the closest medical facility. The other morning at 1:30am we received a call. Fifteen minutes after the call we landed in a really small clearing just large enough for the main and tail rotors to clear. The soldier was training at night and fell down a steep embankment. No life threatening injures but the closest road was some distance away. I like helping people out. However, being awakened out of a deep sleep by the mission buzzer gets old real fast.
At some point in May, maybe the 16th, I will be traveling to Yakima, WA. My unit has to cover any medivac needs at the Yakima Training Center. As it looks right now, I will split my time between Yakima and Ft Drum. I will spend a month in Yakima then back to Drum for a month. Back and forth for two years or more. I could be collecting some serious airline miles. Is there anything to do in Yakima? Any local food or entertainment suggestions are greatly appreciated.
