ok so lemme just say I want to crawl in a cave, have everyone forget about me, and emerge again and be redefined/redefine myself. In my philosophy class we just covered Sartre, and he really prvided some insight into how we should live. I disagree with his religious beliefs (he is an atheist), but I do very much agree about his attitude towards our existence. I guess you could say I am a theistic exisentialist. Throughout the lecture I found myself tryuing to make sense of what he was saying, but maintaining religion in the mix of things. I personally believe that although he said we create the essence of mankind through our action, there is an essence to mankind, which is freedom.
I remember reading once a quote from the bible or hearing from a pastor that God does not love us unconditionally. No. Why? Because when Eve bit into the apple, she defined the essence of woman, and when Adam followed he defined the essence of man. And we greatly dissapointed God, because they defined the essence of mankind in bad way.
In terms of existentialism, it is our job to make God love us again by redefining mankind through our actions.
