"You don't have a boyfriend!" Mariana scoffed. Brel quickly signed the comment to Tally, who made a face and signed back a reply.

"I didn’t say it!" Brel replied, both with a screech and his hands.

"Just admit you don't want to kiss him," Mariana challenged as she pointed to Tian, who was looking hurt. The group was on the beach, near the ice cream stand, having walked down from a local restaurant.

"Even if I wanted to," Brel replied, translating as Tally signed her reply, "I wouldn't do it in front of my boyfriend." She shook her head, ignoring the amused looks on her friends' faces.

Tian moved his arm to get her focus, and winked. "I'll kiss your boyfriend." Tally raised an eyebrow and turned slightly, pointing toward the ice cream stand.

"Go ahead," she said aloud, shrugging. Tian grinned and gave her a challenging nod. He knew the princess liked the young man who worked behind the counter, but he also knew that the pair weren't dating.

"Fine," Tian preened and stepped around the girls. "I will," he said slowly, right in Tally's smiling face. Tally stepped aside and waved for him to pass by. As he slipped past her, Tian gave her a quick peck on the cheek, which caused her mouth to open wide. Brel and Mariana squeaked and gathered around Tally, to watch his success.

Over at Sal's, Max had been trying not to spy on the group - something he did every time he spotted Tally with other boys. Men. Today, he wasn't as worried, as the prince she'd been walking with, yesterday, wasn't there. His mother had assured him that Tally had no interest in any of that, and was simply doing her duty as the Laethrielian princess.

Spotting Tian, who Max knew from a few parties Deb had thrown, Max dropped the wet rag in his hand and smiled. "Hey."

"Hey," Tian replied, then gave a glance to the list of flavors on the board behind Max. "So, that guy with the red hair, yesterday," Tian prompted. Max frowned slightly, not remembering seeing anyone with red hair in the group. "The one you were talking to," Tian clarified.

"Oh," Max nodded and shot a quick look over Tian's shoulder to see Tally watching them. "What about him?" One of his friends from the station had been land-side, visiting the beach.

Tian pointed to a bottle in the cooler. "He seeing anybody?" Max glanced toward Tally again, then looked at Tian and shook his head. "There's a party tomorrow," Tian informed him as Max set the bottle on the counter.

"Not sure he is their type," Max replied, nodding toward the two girls with Tally, assuming one of them wanted a date.

"But he might be mine," Tian replied, fighting a relieved smile. Max raised an eyebrow and nodded. He caught Tally's hand, motioning for him to just 'Say yes', but she didn't know that Tian had completely changed the subject. "Excellent! So, you invite him to the party," Tian nodded, "and then, you can introduce him to me. And then you and Tal can disappear before Jackass shows up." Tian had this whole thing figured out before they even left the restaurant.

"Jack-ass?" Max asked, shaking his head.

"From yesterday," Tian nodded. "The girls are trying to convince Tal to jump on that." He grimaced and shook his head. "They don't believe she has a boyfriend." Max felt his stomach drop to his feet. "That is why I'm over here." Max's brow tightened. "Just nod," Tian ordered. Max obeyed, and gave him a nod visible to the girls. "Tal told them she wasn't going to kiss anyone in front of her boyfriend," Tian explained, pointing to Max. "So I asked if I could."

"Could what?" Max asked, confused.

"Kiss you," Tian replied, shrugging as if it was obvious. Max opened his mouth to rely, but promptly closed it again. "Look, I promise not to check your tonsils," Tian assured him. "That's for Tal to do." Max leaned against the counter, but misjudged the distance and jerked forward slightly.

"Uh," he recovered shakily.

"So, you let me kiss you. Gets the girls off her back. Gets you an automatic date with Tal - don't look at me like that. I've known that girl for years - and it gets me a date with Red," Tian nodded proudly.

"And if it does not work out with Vage?" Max asked.

Tian shrugged. "Maybe I can at least check his tonsils." Max couldn't help but laugh.

"Okay," Max nodded. Giving a look to Tally, Max raised his hands and signed 'You owe me!' then wagged his finger at Tian. Tian hauled himself up onto the counter and Max planted a kiss on him.

"Ooh," Tian smirked as he pulled back, "strawberry." He jumped back before Max could swat him and grabbed the drink.

"Hey!" Max called after him. "You did not pay for that drink!"

The smile on Tally's face, though, was payment enough.
