Mel leaned back in her chair and sighed. The office was dark, save her desk lamp, but she didn't mind. There was no reason to have unnecessary lights on for just one person. Well, the cleaning crew was in the building, but they were in the main rooms of the museum, and those lights were on pretty much all the time.
She'd arrived at the museum about sixteen hours ago, and based on the error message she was still getting, she would probably still be there when the morning staff arrived. Closing her eyes, Mel contemplated a catnap, but only for just a moment.
The buzzing of her ringtone caused her to sit up and reach for the phone. "Hey, Fireman," she answered, knowing that her husband was the only one who would be calling her at that hour.
"So, I got home from work and my wife is missing," Rick said. Mel smiled and leaned back in her chair again.
"Missing? Well, that doesn't sound good. Did you check the closet?" she asked.
"I did. And the bathtub, and the couch. She's just gone."
"Maybe she was sucked up into the Internet by a mean old computer," Mel sighed.
"Maybe the museum animals came to life and kidnapped her!" Rick gasped. Mel laughed and sighed again. "You gonna make it home tonight?" Rick asked after a moment of silence.
"I don't know. I should just call it a loss and come home," she started.
"But you can't do that," Rick finished.
"Nope," Mel responded.
"Well, damn," Rick breathed. "I was hoping to have sex with my wife, tonight."
Mel laughed then sat up. "Y'know what.. that sounds far more preferable to the screwed I'm getting with this damn program." Clicking on the message box, Mel decided to call it a draw and go home. If it wasn't going to work after nine hours, there was no point trying again.
She may have lost this battle, but after some sleep - and a shower - she would win the war.
