Today my husband took me out for lunch at Panera Bread, which is where we had our first date back when it first opened. I was impressed to see that they use antibiotic-free chicken. I had half a chicken sandwich and an awesome salad with fresh pears and dried cherries. Overall it pretty much rocked.
Afterward we went by the comic book store, and I went with Mike into the guitar shop. I think I am going to buy myself an acoustic with my "allowance" from our tax return. I think it would help me relax, and be another source of mental stimulation besides my Brain Age game.
Then, since it was Kate's Choice Day, we went to the Neighborhood Co-Op to look around. We bought a few things, but were pretty concerned about some of the prices. I wish we had the budget to go all out on this.
So far we have replaced these "staple" foods with organic choices:
Cereal
Olive Oil (Bulk)
Cookies (Newman O's, ha!)
Peanut Butter
Bread
Milk
Polenta (I bought this dry in bulk, it was really cheap)
Dark chocolate (Yes, this is a staple!) Mike let me get Green and Black's, it's so good!
I would also like to start buying organic eggs, butter, sugar, flour, cheese (sliced and shredded), condiments, and of course meats for sure. Basically anything we eat a lot of I would like to be natural and organic. Now I just have to find the money.
I looked at home cleaning products for a long time at the Co-Op without coming to a decision. When I got home I googled for a frugal all-purpose cleaner, and I found a recommendation to use one part white vinegar to one part water. I think I'll try this and see how it goes. If it doesn't work out, I will probably end up buying the Seventh Generation version of Windex. Speaking of which, I wonder if Seventh Generation is the only brand of recycled toilet paper and paper towels I can get around here. I've never seen a "regular" brand that had them. Mike will flip if I come home with that stuff. I meant to but never did look at the feminine products since Mike was with me. I am thinking about buying some cloth pads (I don't like tampons) like
Pandora Pads, but I need to find some reviews on them first.
On a different note, I went to the dermatologist this afternoon for the first time ever. She diagnosed me with acneiform eruption (whatever that is) and prescribed me three antibiotics! One is a tablet I have to take morning and night for 2 weeks, and then there's two creams that I am supposed to use morning and night too. She also prescribed a soap to wash my face with that's made with fresh goat's milk. I thought that was ironic since I've been so interested in things like this lately, even in keeping goats someday. And on top of that, they have the same soap at the Co-Op! And it was cheaper than what I paid for it at the doctors. Heh.
