My sweet peppers are sprouting!
I'm thrilled. Tomorrow I'm going to get some more mini-green houses and plant my tomatoes. I'm pretty psyched about the possibility of tomatoes; I can eat cherry tomatoes like popcorn. The snow all melted today and the back yard is a treacherous mud pit, but once it all melts I'm going to start working on making the garden plot.
The organic staple food list now includes cage-free brown eggs, mayonnaise and lettuce. Mike has even taken to eating healthier in general, which I am so happy about. I haven't eaten ice cream since the Wednesday before this last one and I haven't eaten red meat since our trip. I think the next thing to focus on, besides continuing to make healthy food choices, is recycling. We've been saving all our aluminum cans, and I want to recycle everything we can. I just ran out of laundry soap tonight so I have to decide what to do about that tomorrow.
When spring weather gets here to stay, I want to talk Mike into taking me to the
Family Friendly Farm in Cape Girardeau for a tour. They raise their own chickens, pigs and cows, and grow organic vegetables. That's the kind of thing I'd like to do someday, on a much smaller scale obviously. Like, minus the pigs and cows. But I wouldn't mind buying some meat from them.
Also, I can't wait for Farmer's Market season to start! That's two and a half months away though.
