When I update from my Mac (like I am now) I use the Xjournal client. It's decent in that it supports many of LJ's features but it lacks the nifty little extras that Semagic has on the Windows platform. Automatic picture uploads and tag-list tracking are two that I specifically miss. In Semagic, I can drag images into the HTML of a post and have it automatically upload the image and change the HTML to reflect the new location. In Semagic, the tags you use will be automatically kept in a list that you can reference again in the future. Seems like a little thing, but it helps keep track of things so that you aren't using multiple small variations on tags. Xjournal developers take notice!
So for some fucked up cosmic reason, I've decided to start reading Marvel's Civil War saga which erupted across pretty much the entire Marvel universe last summer. I guess the sheer fact that the whole Marvel universe has been turned over has caught my interest. And many of my favorite Marvel characters are directly involved. I'll post reviews as I go.
So I've immersed myself in the new (leaked) Nine Inch Nails album "Year Zero", giving it several full listens. The whole album is amazing, easily trumping 2005's "With Teeth". The way I see it - With Teeth was Reznor's healing album. He'd come through the other side of some nasty habits and had the courage to pick up his art again. That takes a lot of guts - just ask Robin Williams. But as the With Teeth live tour loudly proclaimed, Reznor is back and Year Zero is a much more pure effort in my opinion. Some tracks that stand out for me:
3. Survivalism - The first single off of the album has already reached #1 on Billboard's Modern Rock charts. The video is available at yearzero.nin.com and is worth the download. Great song. I'm fond of the almost anthemic chorus:
"I got my fist
I got my plan
I got survivalism..."
7. Capital G - Great groove. I'm not sure if this is a hit against George W Bush or God. Or both?
10. God Given - I was reading something when this song came on the 2nd time I listened through the album and it made me look up and take notice.
15. In This Twilight - Still my favorite song on the album.
Time for bed. Unfortunately, tomorrow is Monday an no amount of Holiness will get me the day off this time.
