one up, one down
when i was getting ready for work this morning, i took a moment to check on Soleil... found that she'd died during the night. i'm still on a high from yesterday, but needless to say, this put a large damper on things. poor little girl. Tawa seems fine, healthwise, but he was super protective of her when i tried to take her out of the cage, and this afternoon when i was able to actually clean it out, he was very much in need of affection. i don't know what i'm going to do. i always thought he would go first because he's two years older than her, and frankly, i'm not as attached to her as i am to him. if he had died first, i would have adopted her out. but i really don't want to get another degu... he'll fight with a male and make xeroxes with a female.
i have an idea of what she might have died from... i got them a new house, and she'd been eating a lot of it. there aren't many options other than pine when it comes to critter housing, and the oil in it can make them sick. but i figured if she was going to get sick, it would have happened several houses ago. however, that's still my only theory what with Tawa not being sick at all.
