some of you may remember a Smarch post i did about easter at work... i made a "Stations of the Cross" display for the lobby, the sign for which was calligraphed and had a big realistic-looking paper lily that even impressed me, and i made it lol. well, they left it on a windowsill. you know what happened next.

so on friday, admin brought me the sign and asked me to recreate it. oof.

i was able to salvage the head of the lily, which i'm glad for as this was the most difficult part. but the most ANNOYING part was the calligraphy. talk about tedious! at least last year, i had a chistle-tip dry-erase marker to work with (yes, this was done in a pinch at work the first time) but i don't have anything like that at home. so that part was fun. all i have left to do is erase my pencil guides, but all i gotta say is they better not ask me to do anything like this again. the first time, i was working the switchboard and i could work on it between calls. this time, i had to use my own time. a weekend, at that. gr.

i wish i could remember how i made the lily, though, because i'd like to make one for myself.

on an upside, i went shopping with bob and uncle billy today. went to Old Navy, where i actually fit into some SIZE 10 PANTS!!! go me! granted, that's the only store where i'd ever fit into a 10 as of yet (they seem to run a little generous with their sizes), but it still makes me happy. didn't get them because they turned out not to be on clearance, but will have to keep them in mind. ran into my cousin erin, who works there, and was asking me about J. first question out of her mouth: "Does he speak English?" i wanted to slap her. i said, "He's lived here since he was six months old; yes, he speaks English. In fact, I speak more Korean than he does." "Oh, wow." ::rolls eyes:: wait until i tell Egha lol.

and speaking of J, i got to talk to him for a couple mins last night. like literally, a couple. he'd left me an offline to call him, which i did and left a message, and he called back a little later. he didn't sound himself, and i'm hoping it's just that having TLG this weekend has him worn out. i was trying to clear off the bed so i could relax and talk to him and he suddenly said he was gonna go ahead to bed. i think he was in one of his "i need time/space for me" moods, so i just let him go. *sigh* for me, this is the most trying part of having a long-distance relationship... sometimes someone's bad days fall smack into the little bit of time we have together (and believe me, i've had them, too). meh. he always says not to worry about him, he'll be fine, but i worry anyway, and he's always fine. i just hate having to worry from afar.

anyway, back to shopping. i got a Hitchhiker's Guide anthology on clearance at B&N, plus i had a $5 gift card to use toward it. happy me. now i know what i can tear into once i'm done re-reading Potter. went to Kohl's where i found absolutely nothing. actually, the entire trip was fruitless in regard to the things i actually set out for: oxfords, work pants and a messenger bag. i found plenty of messenger bags, but none that suited. they had stuff emblazoned all over them, or they were twice the size i needed, or they were "distressed" to the point of looking like they were something someone threw out. i just want a Dickie's one, like the one i have, with nothing on it.

after my next paycheck, i need to get some storage totes to put my books in for while they're in the storage area. and speaking of that, bob said that the 10x10 one aunt kathy has costs her over $100 a month. ack! my thinking was still in VA almost ten years ago, when we were paying $40. i'm hoping that if that's the case, they'll have one size down from that. the big items are the loveseat, the entertainment center and the dinette, then the chair, the desk, the drafting table... i can pile boxes on top of the desk if nothing else, and in the shelves of the entertainment center. so if they have, say 10x6, i think i can get away with that. i hope, anyway ::crosses fingers::
