I love fics about Peter. Great look into what was going through his mind. It makes me wonder how accurate his perceptions were, and how much his insecurities influenced them.

A Peter fic! I was thrilled to see this and it did not disappoint in the least. Poor Peter - on so many levels. Granted, it's hard for me to forgive what he did to Sirius, James, Lily, and Harry, but he is far from evil. Certainly he's the most under-developed Marauder (both in fandom and the books), but he's a lot more complex than most people give him credit for. You, however, wrote him beautifully.

I once wrote about Peter and you and I have very much the same take on him. He's not evil, just sad and frustrated and ashamed and totally misunderstood. Nobody is deliberately mean to him, but he is still, somehow, different and not included. It sucks to be average (or slightly above average) in a kingdom of superstars, does it not? That brilliant moment with Sirius illustrates that beautifully.

And I love how honest and absolutely aware he is - and how well you show that.

This really, really makes the reader feel for Peter--and I think that's a hard thing to do, seeing as he's generally a hated character. I love when writers go back to what made Peter betray his friends. I think the situation you've created here seems like it really could have happened. He felt inadequate, unwanted...and that's the only reason he crossed sides. I sincerely believe that he did regret what he did to Lily and James, regardless of what canon says.

Anyway, this was lovely. Great job! :)

Damn computer closed the page mid-comment. I'll try to recreate it.

Peter is a great character in his complexity, something that makes him hard, yet fun, to write.

I really feel bad for Peter here. James and Sirius are such pricks to him. But he's so used to following them, living in their shadow, that he does nothing.

What I liked best about this piece is how they've just won something, and that ultimately is the catalyst for losing Peter.

Peter-centric fics are not easily come by, which is always disappointing. I think a lot of people are perfectly content with thinking him the traitor, and never bothering to consider why. However, you've done a good job at showing Peter's layers here--the resentment, the endless comparisons, the never quite matching up. It would be hard being friends with James and Sirius just because of who they are and their larger than life personalities, and you've shown that struggle well.
