Challenge: Past Challenges (25 Fairy Tales)

Sometimes Buffy wonders if she isn't in fact living in a fairy tale.  Not the happily-ever-after kind, but the kind where the princess is always in distress.  That's a fairy tale right?  Sometimes she wonders when her prince will come...if he hasn't already.  What's Angel if not her prince?  Then again, maybe a prince isn't what she's looking for after all.  Maybe she's waiting for her knight in shining armor, complete with a white stallion  which he  gracefully dismounts to present a bouquet of white lilies.

That's where the fairy tale always becomes muddied in her mind because, no matter how hard she fights it, whenever she pictures her knight in shining armor it's not so much armor as it is leather.  And it's not so much a white stallion as it's a black motorcycle.  And the white lilies replaced with a single rose with thorns still intact to represent all the damage they'd done to each other.  And her knight?  The only one who could ever rescue a princess who turns out to be a slayer.

Sometimes Buffy wonders if she isn't in fact living a fairy tale and sometimes...she thinks it might be the happily-ever-after kind.

Challenge: Past Challenges (117 Heroes)

Veronica didn't believe in heroes anymore.  It was the job that did it, jaded her mind, her innocence.  There were only bad people and the people like her who tried to stop them.  Heroes just didn't exist.  Then she met Faith.

"Look blondie I dunno what you're doing out here all by yourself but you better motor."
"What were those things?"
Vampires.  Vampires had attacked her, Veronica Mars.  And apparently there's already somebody out there fighting them.
"Now get out of here kid, there might be more of them."
"Excuse me? I'm not a kid."
"And I'm not in the mood to argue with you.  You look twelve so motor."
"I'm 18."
"...I'm Faith."

Faith was a bad ass.  Sure Veronica could take on anyone using her quick intellect and sharp tongue, but Faith...all she had to do was fix somebody with those smokey eyes of hers and they took off with their figurative tail between their legs.

It was the third night that Faith had 'saved' her in that same cemetery that Veronica realized maybe there weren't any heroes after all.

"I'm startin' to think that you're followin' me short stuff."  Faith said, replacing her stake in her jacket.
"Ha, a vertically challenged joke.  Classic."
"Seriously though, is this gonna be a regular thing? Cause I'm thinkin' maybe you should start payin' me or somethin'."
"I thought heroes weren't supposed to take money for their services."
"I'm no hero."

Who knew someone who saved people on a daily basis could have so much darkness inside?

"But it was a mistake right?  You didn't know he was human."  Veronica was a little surprised to find that she wasn't the least bit uncomfortable sharing the company of a murderer.  Or maybe it was just this murderer in particular.
"That doesn't change what I did.  Going to the mayor, betraying Buffy."
"Who's Buffy?"  She learned quickly that if Faith were going to betray any emotion, it would be in her impossibly dark eyes.
"The other slayer."
"So there's two of you?"
Faith nods and Veronica wishes it weren't so dark out.

But it's the time when there aren't any demons or vampires, when she's not in a cemetery, when she finds that there are heroes, it's just a matter of opinion.

The knock on the door is a surprise.  Her dad's away on business and it's 2 in the morning.  She wipes hastily at her eyes and cracks the door slightly.
"No worries, I'm no creep."  She opens the door the rest of the way, smiling slightly.
"Faith.  What are you doing here?"
"Well I didn't have to save your ass tonight, thought something might be wrong.  Ironic huh?"  Veronica nods.
"How did you know where I live?"
"You're nuts if you think I let you walk back home alone all those times."  This time Veronica smiles a big, genuine smile.
"My hero."  Faith laughs and shakes her head.
"I told you, I ain't no hero."  Veronica shrugs.
"Matter of opinion.

Challenge: Past Challenges (128 Rules)

Rules are made to be broken. Veronica knows this.  So why is it such a surprise when she finds herself firmly pressed against a cool brick wall with Faith's warm lips softly pressed against hers?

Rules are made to be broken.  So why does it hurt so much when the only thing Veronica's warm hand can caress the next morning is the cold bed sheet?

Rules are made to be broken.  So why does she keep holding onto the glimmer of hope that it wasn't just a one night stand?

Rules are made to be broken.  Turns out...hearts aren't.
