Last Sunday, I went with my mom to the annual Festival of Pilipino Arts and Culture (FPAC)...at least I think that's what it stands for. In any case, I really enjoy going to FPAC because there's nothing like enjoying Filipino food, browsing the various stores set up with Filipino goodies, and just overall being surrounded by the comforting sound of Tagalog all around. It almost feels like being back home.
This year, they changed FPAC a little bit by adding food trucks. Yes, that's right, Filipino food trucks. I have to say, I liked the idea of the food trucks because it was smaller portions, so I was able to try more than one food truck. The food was sooooo goooooood! If I ever see that food truck around or find out where it is, I am so there. How cool would it be if after a night out, there was a Filipino food truck offering sisig, lumpia, and other pulutan? I think it's only a matter of time before that happens, or at least I hope so. I would pick the Filipino food truck over the Mexican one after a night out. Well, maybe I'll compromise and get both...;p
Aside from the food, one of the Filipino TV stations, GMA, had a program this time around. They featured JR, the "Filipino King of R&B" (I guess...), AJ Rafael, really popular on youtube, Bambu, a Filipino rapper, and of course, Rex Navarette, comedian. They also had this pretty amazing a capella group that performed the opening number and did a duet with JR. I think my favorite performance was the impromptu duet between JR and AJ Rafael. Man, I love seeing talent! It was funny because AJ forgot a line in the song at one point, but I think he recovered pretty well. JR, the "Filipino King of R&B" and currently dating Miss Philippines apparently, was actually pretty good. My mom made a comment that JR probably stood for "Justin Rimberlake." Then she went into a story about how a famous Filipino guy once tapped her on the shoulder to say, "Thank you so much for coming" and that he probably did it because she had her sunglasses on and looked like a movie star herself. I'm not sure what the connection is between her story and "Justin Rimberlake," but that's my mom...
Overall, I had a great time, as usual. Of course, FPAC wouldn't be complete without randomly bumping into someone I know. This year was no exception. Gotta love it. =)
