The nice thing about a .22 is that you just shoot the attacker twice. Once in each eye!
A pistol has sights, like most rifles (without scopes). If the rifle had a V shaped piece close to your eye and a bead of metal on the end, you lined up the bead in the V.
Pistols can be the same; it is just that the V and bead are closer together. So pistol, rifle... it's all the same. Iron Sights (as below), or Scope or Laser Dot, you just put it on the target, where you want the bullet to go, and gently squeeeeze the trigger.

Yargh, but the sights are hard to use! (Scopes are so much easier.) The laser sighting sounds kind of crazy easy, though. Like, at that point, is it even fair game?
I may have to try a pistol at some point. It just does strike me that the recoil would be nastier. Plus, the .22 with the scope was *so* much easier than the rifle with the iron sight.
