a rant about a fanfic

I'm upset and thrilled at Star Trek. The boy and I saw it late last night on a whim, the last showing of the night. The projector light was wonky, they warned us. While we were waiting around with a handful of other people in the large theater I got to playing around with my new cellphone that I had just gotten a couple hours earlier (omg yay internet capabilities!). Richard went to the lobby for popcorn and drinks and heard that they had fixed the problem. Besides the obvious out-of-focus problems during the previews, it was flawless. I'm also planning on seeing Pixar's UP when it comes out.

I love Christ Pine and Zachary Quintos. Hot men, beautiful outfits and all of the young original cast has a part in the movie at kicking ass. However... I don't like that it's an AU. In fact, I fucking hate the fact that it swiftly negates all of the original series and subsequent movies. I totally understand why Shatner didn't like the script. It wasn't until the movie was almost over that I realized that I was unhappy with the adaptation and the direction Abrams wanted to take the franchise. Not as though Abrams is a bad director (although sitting 8 rows back from the Cinerama screen did make me uncomfortably nauseous) but the writers must have really been desperate for some young, hot-blooded relevancy.

I love you, Star Trek. I think it's an amazing film. I just don't agree with the AU direction. I love my original cast. You can't take that away from me! Not my childhoooood!
