It’s a big fuck up is what it is.
Sam’s not the problem. Neither is Murphy. Hell, that’s the easy part.
Murphy pushes Connor. “Let’s see what you’re made of brother.” Connor pushes right back, was raised to push right back. Then, Murphy laughs because, “Fucking yeah we’re related.”
Sam doesn’t push. He sits there with a polite smile but there’s something spinning behind his eyes. He smiles sweetly before laying his cards on the table. “I win.” Dean stares like Sam just turned the world upside down because - fuck - he wasn’t expecting that.
No, they’re not the problem.
It’s him. The other one. Dean or Connor or whoever the fuck they are.
He spars with Murphy until they’re rolling around the floor and Dean wants to blow his fucking brain outs.
He shoves Sam toward some hot chick at the bar and Connor slides a hand against his jaw to keep from swinging.
Because they don’t give a shit if they were switched at birth. Sam is his and Murphy is his and they weren’t raised to fucking share them. And Dean will take Sam but Murphy is still his and Connor will take Murphy but Sam is still his and - .
“Who the fuck do you think you are?”
Connor/Dean - or Dean/Connor - shoves him up against the wall outside. He smashes their lips and teeth together while the other one tangles a hand in his air and pulls too hard. One gets grinded painfully into the wall while the other gets bruises the shape of hands all up his back and neck. They finish with something brittle and broken; “Don’t fucking take him away from me.”
But, when they find them, Sam and Murphy are lying spent on the hood of the car. They can see the bruises on Sam’s hips and the bites on Murphy’s shoulder. Murphy lips move against Sam’s ear and they can hear him say, “We one big happy family, huh?”
