River watched them dance around each other like the puppets in the shows. Can’t get too close or their strings would tangle all up. Silly yellow heads. They were already all tangled up.
Couldn’t see it though. It wasn’t on the outside.
Strings twisted around each other in their head. Hands and arms and feet and legs. Mouth and tongue and clothes. All twisted up and on the floor and on the couch and on the bed and on the table where they ate.
River turned to Dawnie watching big sister and William dance like puppets.
“They’re mind-rutting,” she said.
