I have not done art on any serious level since I graduated college fourteen years ago. I'm not saying this as an insecurity thing… I'm trying to give an indication of how deeply this story touched me. I never had any intention of volunteering to do art for the big bang, but Picture Perfect just was one of those stories that is such a deep, human story that I had to do it.
Story Banner: done in ink. I rather liked this one. The objects under the title are meant to represent the five people that Hoshi loves in this story: the vidscreen/videogame is for Jordan, the petition is for Amelia, the math is for Felix, the book is for Tabitha, and the tiara, of course, is for Nina. The windchimes just struck me very early on as a symbol of the sort of life Hoshi really wants.
Amelia and Jordan in the hammock: done in charcoal. This is the picture of his kids on Sagittaron that Hoshi carries throughout the fic. I had a different angle in my mind (also a woven hammock instead of a cloth one), but after searching the photo references I could find, I came to the conclusion that the angle I wanted doesn't exist, and I found a cloth hammock for reference instead of one of those woven ones. I'm very fascinated by the idea of Hoshi's house in this, and what it looks like and this whole other life, so different from the very professional side of him that we see in the series.
Hoshi, Gaeta, Nina, and Tabitha: done in charcoal. This is the picture that's taken at the end of the four of them. I missed the shoulder that's in the shot, but otherwise, I was very, very happy with how this came out. This moment at the end with the four of them together just represents so much struggle and how far Hoshi's had to come… I love it.
