hey what's up?

I've been seeing more and more people posting life updates, so I'm jumping on the bandwagon!

• My parents and sister came to visit in May. It was the first time I got to see them all since the wedding. It's fun when they're here because it's an excuse to go do all the touristy things I never do... like go to the Dole Plantation! I also hiked Diamond Head for the first time, which was not as bad as I was expecting.

• Japan was lovely! I got to stay with snowqueenofhoth, and also reconnect with pixisticks and shabzilla and daelite. I also had my first Airbnb experience, which worked surprisingly well! I don't know how comfortable I'd feel using the service in some other places, but for Japan it was fantastic.

My research there was kind of a bust. It didn't help that there was an attack on some of the members the day before I got there. Security was very tight, and I was unable to procure a ticket. Plus, on one of the big days I needed to be out and about, I had a migraine and needed to cut my fieldwork short. :\ I may have to go back in the fall, but hopefully not! I'd rather use the money on a trip back to visit family in NY.

• Work is going okay. I came back from Japan to find out a) my company had doubled in size the month I was gone, and b) my role in the company was changing completely. I'm now a project manager, dealing with regulations and other not-too-fun things, but it beats doing Accounts Receivable! Plus I can still work 30 hours a week, so it gives me plenty of time to work on my thesis.

• ...Let's not talk about my thesis.

• Gaming!! Larry and I got a Wii U, so we've been playing a lot of Mario Kart 8. :D It's one of the few games that I like playing online - I think the fact that you can only speak to other players in prescribed phrases (Okay! Hello! Good game!) is really appealing. We've also been playing Pikmin 3, which is one of the cutest and most beautiful games I've ever played. On the 3DS side, I am working my way through Bravely Default (I am in the really slow second half of the game) and the fan translation of Ace Attorney Investigations 2. Both are really good, but in completely different ways. I'm really impressed by the AAI2 fan translation. I think it might be better written than the official Capcom releases. I also tried to play Dramatical Murder so I'd know what 4_03_am and phonestrap are always flailing about, but the Mac port does not work at all. So I watched a let's play instead... now I know what you all are talking about! :P

That's about it with me. How are all of you? Who's still reading this thing, anyway? As always, if you want to find me in places where I hang out more frequently, you can find me on twitter or instagram or facebook (ask me for the link).
