(This apparently didn't crosspost from DW, oops!)

I opened Dreamwidth, and it asked me if I wanted to restore a partial entry called "It's... May?" Obviously journaling in 2013 was a complete bust. I do want to get back into it for 2014, as I think this will help keep me sane through the thesis writing process. We'll see. As always, the best way to keep in contact with me is through Facebook (ask me for the link) and Twitter (@musikologie).

Since I posted absolutely nothing last year, let's do the year in review meme!

1. What did you do in 2013 that you'd never done before?
Spent an entire year at one place of employment.

2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't think I made any last year. My resolutions this year are pretty simple: go to the beach more often and (relatedly) not get sunburned all year.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
swtjemz! Also one of my coworkers, and I have a classmate and a cousin-in-law due in January.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.

5. What countries did you visit?
England! I also went to the mainland - the Midwest is almost another country compared to Hawai'i. :P

6. What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?
Less anxiety.

7. What date from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I don't know... my first anniversary was November 10th, maybe that? Or December 19th, which was when I went to the HP Studio Tour.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Is it bad to say I don't know? This year wasn't a big year in terms of forward progression, it was more about keeping the status quo. I guess that writing my thesis proposal was my biggest accomplishment.

9. What was your biggest failure?
On that note, I did not do enough research for my thesis (although part of that was due to waiting for IRB approval). I'm going to finish it this year, though - come hell or high water!

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I got the flu in April, but I think that's it.

11. What were the best things you bought?
My iPad, tickets to the HP tour. The latest Ace Attorney game :P

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Larry, for always being awesome.

13. Whose behaviour appalled you?
Hmmm. Some of my clients at work, I'm often amazed at the selfishness and entitlement I am forced to deal with.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Rent and food.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Going to England to see Larry's family!

16. What song will always remind you of 2013?
Probably AKB48's "Koisuru Fortune Cookie."

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? um... about the same?
ii. thinner or fatter? bit fatter.
iii. richer or poorer? poorer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Household chores, actually. Larry ends up doing most of them because he's home more, and I feel bad about that.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Stressing out about everything!

20. How did you spend Christmas?
I spent it with my in-laws. Christmas is also my father-in-law's birthday, so it was nice to celebrate with him! It was my first English/Filipino Christmas, haha.

21. Where did you ring in 2013/4?
(The meme had "2012," so I'll do both last and this year.) 2013 I was at Larry's advisor's 3-day New Year's party. For 2014 Larry and I were both entirely too jetlagged to do anything, so we fell asleep at 4 pm, and set an alarm to wake up at midnight (although we probably didn't need to, all the fireworks would have woken us up anyway).

22. Did you fall in love in 2013?
More like continued to be in love.

23. How many one-night stands?
None.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Um.... the only TV I watched this year was Project Runway and various things on Food Network, so I'll abstain from this one.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Not really.

26. What was the best book you read?
I didn't read any fiction this year, and I don't really categorize academic reading as being the best reading, so I'll abstain from this one, too.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
The Honolulu jpop radio station :)

28. What did you want and get?
A raise at work, more chances to cook at home. You know, writing this I realize that my 2013 has been extremely boring.

29. What did you want and not get?
I wanted to apply for a whole bunch of conferences, but the deadlines just came too fast for me to do anything.

30. What was your favourite film of this year?
I didn't go to the movies at all this year. I did see Monsters University on a plane, and that was pretty cute, so we'll go with that.

31. What did you do on your birthday?
Oh man, I can't remember. It was a Saturday, so I probably went to choir rehearsal. I did go get shabu-shabu with Larry and a couple of friends, I think.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Less anxiety attacks!

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013?
Um... business casual?

34. What kept you sane?
Larry and video games (sometimes concurrently).

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
None?

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
I tried to avoid political clusterfucks as much as possible. I guess the ineptitude of the US Congress was the thing that "stirred" me the most, if "stirred" means "made me facepalm the most."

37. Who did you miss?
My family, as I didn't get to see most of them in person this year.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
I didn't meet them this year, but getting to know my sister-in-law more this year was great.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013.
No matter how busy you are, you need to take some time to yourself or you will burn out.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
恋するフォーチュンクッキー!
その殻
さあ壊してみよう
Hey! Hey! Hey!
先の展開
神様も知らない
涙のフォーチュンクッキー
そんなに
ネガティブにならずに
Hey! Hey! Hey!
Hey! Hey! Hey!
世界は愛で溢れているよ
悲しい出来事忘れさせる
明日は明日の風が吹くと思う
