I didnt do much today. continued to read 'are men really necessary?: when sexes collide'. i think so far its one of those books that i probably.. dont have to read it at my age..but its still thought-provoking and interesting. (similar to reading 'hes just not that into you', you know what i mean?)

so i was just strolling through my kitchen when i thought i would stop by the pantry to review what i would be cooking for tomorrow and i came across these two cans that had inadvertently given me something to think about.

and

the cans read
1. Bruce's yams- "whole sweet potatoes in syrup"
2. Princella Sweet Potatoes- "Cut yams in light syrup"

now wait a minute.. i could have sworn there was a difference! isnt there supposed to be a difference between sweet potatoes and yams?

"Several decades ago, when orange-fleshed sweet potatoes were introduced in the southern United States, producers and shippers desired to distinguish them from the more traditional, white-fleshed types. The African word nyami, referring to the starchy, edible root of the Dioscorea genus of plants, was adopted in its English form, yam. Yams in the U.S. are actually sweetpotatoes with relatively moist texture and orange flesh. Although the terms are generally used interchangeably, the U.S. Department of Agriculture requires that the label "yam" always be accompanied by "sweet potato." The following information outlines several differences between sweetpotatoes and yams."

I finally know the truth about "yams" and "sweet potatoes" so i thought i'd share it with everyone who doesnt give a damn.

do i have too much time on my hands? i believe so.
