Idiots

I almost had my first wedding cake order. It was all but a done deal, the gal had only to sign the contract and pay the deposit. She was in charge of ordering and paying for the cake for her friend's wedding. I gave them samples and did a consultation. She didn't want me to tell the bride the price or anything, which I can respect that so I didn't. But then she apparently accidentally sent the contract to the bride, who saw the price and thought it was too much. She was apparently trying to convince her that it was comparable to other bakers, but now I haven't heard any more from her. The wedding was scheduled for the 24th.

She could also have been lying about sending it to her because she didn't like my contract for whatever reason (I think it's perfectly reasonable; my policies are in line with other bakers.) and didn't want to look like an asshole. She did say she would probably order something else from me in the future and really liked the cupcakes I gave them. But you know how often people ever do what they say they're going to do. We'll see. I'm going to be so annoyed if it does fall through. You know when you get the feeling that something isn't going to work out due to shit going sideways.

I had someone else asking for a 3-tier birthday cake, which I am 100% confident I could do, but she apparently didn't believe me that she could get the number of servings out of it that she wanted. She also wanted to order cupcakes, which would have been more than enough for 30 people. So after I didn't hear back for a couple days I texted her back saying 'your order has been cancelled; thank you for your interest.' Then she immediately texted back and said oh, sorry I didn't get back to you, we decided the serving size is too small. Fine, whatever.

But that's nearly $400 I'm losing out on between those two. Ahhhh, fuck!! Now I don't have any more orders, aside from the gal that won the free cupcakes from my giveaway but that isn't scheduled yet either.

And you know, I get that money is tight for most people right now. I do. That's why I include delivery, for one thing. But it's for a special occasion, especially a wedding! you have to expect to drop some money for it. I'm not here to compete with the Walmarts and Costcos; it's completely different. In fact I should probably be charging more than I am too.

Blargh. People gonna people I guess.

rant, idiots
