1. The handymen crew came on Saturday for the first day of ripping things up and inspecting the damage. They're working on the two upstairs bathrooms primarily, as well as the ceilings of the rooms directly below the bathrooms that have been damaged by leaks (study, downstairs bathroom, laundry room). As a result, the house is in chaos, but progress has been admirably fast and repairs are being made, so that is fantastic.
The master bathroom upstairs is nearly complete as far as repairs and refinishing goes. The old shower stall was completely ripped out, and replaced, complete with: new tiles, floor, showerhead, and door. It looks amazing. The bathtub hose has been replaced with a new one, and the taps have been changed to something less awkwardly plastic and 80's. It should finally be functional for bathing again.
The second upstairs bathroom is now currently being fixed. The shower/bathtub plumbing is now being repaired, and I believe the tiling will be redone. All of the toilets in the house have been replaced with new, low-flow toilets, and all the bathrooms are going to be repainted.
Once the bathrooms are finished, I am going to Roomba and Scooba the shit out of them. And then do whatever else needs to be done cleaning-wise: cleaning the counters, sinks, windows, and then finally redecorating. After years of nonfunctional bathrooms, it'll be nice to finally have everything working and new again.
2. I spent this past weekend in Philadelphia, hanging out with BFF J. We had a delicious meal at El Vez, a trendy Steven Starr restaurant, and got dim sum on Sunday at Joy Tsin Lau, which was tasty as well. Thank goodness for Yelpers and the Asian grapevine. I practiced my Mandarin which, after being in Beijing last summer, is still good enough to order food and point at things.
Afterwards, we wandered through Outfest, which was fun, and then went to the Philadelphia Zoo--yay! Lions and tigers and bears were seen, and good times were had.
3. This weekend, I'll be heading up to New Hampshire to visit a friend, Maggie, for a few days (hopefully to see some lighthouses and mountains and consume vast quantities of maple-related products). And then stay with a friend, B, in Boston, whom I haven't seen since in a few years. Time to start packing!
