1. So the handymen are all done and gone. The whole project took a longer and cost a bit more money than the initial estimate, but given how home remodels go, that was actually built into our schedule and budget. Thankfully, the overages weren't huge, and the results are generally spectacular.
Master bathroom: all new shower, new toilet, working bathtub, new faucets, repainted. Additionally, it's been cleaned and redecorated, so it looks good on top of that.
Other upstairs bathroom: new tiling around the bathtub, newly installed sliding doors, new toilet, and it's been repainted. Nice and empty and spacious at the moment, but I'm sure when I return at the end of next week my mother will have filled it once more with her usual clutter.
Downstairs bathroom: new toilet, repainted (!!! this was in dire need of repainting).
Coat closet sliding door: fixed. New track installed. Now filled with coats.
We are all very pleased with the results, though I am glad to be getting out of the house so I don't have to deal with the lingering smells of paints/chemicals/whatever drying. I roombaed and scoobaed quite a few room already, so they are the cleanest they have been in years. I also got to move all the random things that had been stored in my room back out, which was a relief, since I'd been feeling seriously crowded with that situation all week. I took the opportunity to reorganize my room, though I didn't get a chance to roomba yet. When I return, I will.
2. I am now currently in Mont Vernon, NH, as part of my six day trip to New Hampshire and Boston. I'm visiting a friend who lives on a farm in NH and she's going to show me the nature and sights around the area; also, she worked in a bakery and will be cooking/baking for me (!!!!) so overall, good deal. I am also a huge maple syrup fiend, so will be guzzling it and candy down while we are in the area (she has maple trees in her backyard.
The second leg of my trip will be visiting an old college friend, B, in Boston. I am hoping to visit some museums while I am there and maybe see the Mapparium, but we'll see. I was actually born in Boston--though I only lived there until I was two--and have been back to see Faneuil Hall and a few other things once in the past few years. I haven't really gotten a chance to settle in and see a lot of the major sights, though, so I am hoping to remedy that situation on this trip.
I will be returning home on Thursday, early in the morning, thus concluding my little foray into New England. I love visiting and staying with friends!
