Better off Ted - Okay, I officially love this show. This show combines really funny actors (Portia di Rossi, among others) with really funny dialogue (I had the AA meeting moved to the utility closet) with really funny concepts (medieval fight club). If you haven't checked it out yet, I highly recommend it.
Today was another summer of fun day: I went to see The Magic Flute for free in a summer concert in Rockefeller Park. I've never been in that area before and it was actually quite beautiful--I got to the venue early so took a stroll along the Hudson River in the balmy 75* and sunny weather. I took a gander at the Irish Hunger Memorial, which was interesting. It's an authentic famine era cottage recontructed in Battery Park City and a veritable oasis of irish vegetation amidst a concrete desert.
The show itself was fun. Light, comedic fare as far as operas go, and a truncated, 1 hour version of the show at that. Still, the day was lovely with nary a cloud in sight, and despite some small acoustical mishaps, the performance ran smoothly. Having never seen The Magic Flute before, I'm glad I got the chance to see its high and low points for free--the plot is as ridiculous and convoluted as operas get, while the Mozart score is magical. I definitely wouldn't mind paying to see a full production of it sometime in the future, though I'll probably get the cheap seats since I only care about the music and not the story.
Last, somber note: RIP Michael Jackson, Ed MacMahon, and Farrah Fawcett.
