Philip Thiel, Australian, artist, generally fascinating person, has this thing going wherein he does yearly projects. And the other day I was lucky enough to be a part of one of them
I first came across Philip's LJ when he was doing two lines of iambic pentameter each day, describing his day. I copycatted for a while, I think I lasted about a week :P
His next project was my favourite - giving flowers to strangers, one each day. I copycatted this too, a few times, with beautiful results. This is something everyone should do.
The year after that, he spent "a year with the saints", doing something each day relating to the story of the saint to whom that day is dedicated.
Last year he spent a year with lemons, doing something different with a lemon every day of the year.
This year is 2010: A year of kissing people. Challenging stuff! Every day, he kisses a different person, on the lips, often strangers.
I was his first Australian reader to be a part of it! I was honoured.
Read his description of our meeting:
http://thiel.livejournal.com/390824.html And my description is below the cut:
We arranged to meet on the banks of the river and then have lunch in a place nearby called the Blue Train Cafe. Alex and I left early, luckily, as it took us longer than expected to find the spot I was supposed to start walking from. We found it in time, I called Philip to hear he was in position, and we started walking. We had arranged to have a cliche run-towards-each-other-with-arms-outstretched kiss, and when I saw Philip I started running, and then jumped into his arms. We shared a big hug and a brief kiss - through my hair - and then we went upstairs for lunch. The view was lovely, the day was sunny, we chatted a lot, Alex and Philip ganged up on me Mac-hater style, and it was a lovely time. Philip is a charming, sweet, friendly & humorous person, as well as intelligent, inspired, and a true artist. I was so happy to meet him. If you get the chance to be part of his unique art, don't hesitate! He has no ulterior motives and is a true gentleman. Even my boyfriend was charmed. We had a lovely day, and parted in St. Kilda at the Gay Pride parade where Philip went to find his partner.
Hope to see you again soon, philip :)
