I almost didn't make it to my flight, but luckily I did. I could not afford a hotel so I had to stay on Martin's couch. I didn't get to do anything much, it was just a quick weekend trip to the film festival.
It was a small affair, held at the Koret Auditorium in the Main Library of San Francisco. The auditorium was not even half-filled (or half-empty, however you think). Nevertheless, it was a proud moment seeing my films on the medium-sized screen. People responded positively to "Drifters".
Despite the longevity of the Filipino American Cinema Festival (it is the longest running festival of its kind at 18 years), it is still a fairly small one with little public support and participation. It does have a lot of promise though. It is the pet project of Mr. Tumbocon, and it seems to be a one-man effort for him.
I want to volunteer next year and help organize the festival, and make it worthwhile for all the guests as well as the filmmakers. I can see Mr. Tumbocon worked very hard for this, and I can see the promise in this festival.
