sorry, just realized how random this comment seems! went through the journal looking at other photos and decided they really do look alike. adorable pup!
Hello Dakota, and Mushka may have the same parents! Mushka was an unwanted pup dropped off at the Detroit Humane Society, we are not sure what breed she comes from (I like to say she’s a dingo!). People she meets fall in love with her (I think its her eyes) and they always want to know what breed she is so they can get a dog like her, some have been shocked to learn Mushka is a ‘pound mutt’, or as we like to call her a princess! That photo on the bed of Dakota, I think I have one of Mushka in the same position! If I can find it I’ll post it!
How old is Dakota? Where did she (or he?) find you?

Mushka and Dakota really do look related! but Dakota is from the humane society in southern New Mexico (a little far from Detroit!) She was born in either the end of may or the beginning of june, 2004. We adopted her in August 2004. I do think that she and Mushka have a few breeds in common though.
I had myself on the waiting list for a lab when Dakota's litter came in. I wanted to adopt a puppy because my other dog (a tibetan spaniel/dachshund mix) doesn't like breeds larger than her- I tricked her by introducing them when dakota was the small one ! ;) Anyway, she never really grew up as she's only 40lbs now- we thought she'd be bigger! I don't really have any breed guesses other than lab. She has a few black spots on her tongue and I met a golden/chow/shepherd that looks just like her.
& I just looked at the pictures of Mushka as a puppy, ADORABLE! it's funny because dakota also had folded ears as a pup. (actually she only had ONE, the other ear was like they are now...)

Ears Ears Ears! I can’t tell you how happy I was to see that Mushka’s ears started to go back when she was about 2 months old. No offence to floppy eared dogs, but I love up-ears, and pulley-back ears! I teased her when she was a pup, and told her I was going to use some scotch tape to pull her ears back! (of course I did not do it

I loved dakota's ears when she was a pup because she had one flipped and one not. it was adorable. so I was sad when the other started leaning back! but they are still adorable!
from what I've read, chows are generally smaller than labs fullgrown. which is why I think dakota may be mixed with one.. I am also pretty sure she has some lab in her... when I was growing up my family had a lab that dakota reminds me of very much. even my boyfriend saw a picture of the lab, molly, and asked if it was dakota.
Now I just refer to her as my miniture lab with funky ears ;)
And yeah, people who call dakota a pit mix are just crazy. these ears can come from anywhere. even a dog with folded ears and a dog with ears that stick up could create a dog with ears like hers!
& Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. ha! that's awesome.
And I've added all three to my friends-list. and feel free to add back. :)
the coloring is so pretty!

I have tons of Mu photos on her webpage http://www.gj9tech.com/menagerie.html
Click to enter, and then select Mushka from the menu.
Mushka has a k9 ‘sister’ Indy indyinky, and a bunch of feline sisters and a brother.
It's nice to meet you
