you risk the strike 'em out, throw 'em out double play

So I have been doing an important and totally scientific survey of chocolate covered fruit snacks in the past few weeks, and I can wholeheartedly recommend the Dove dark chocolate+fruit combinations, though I'd say the cherries are best, then the cranberries, then the blueberries.

I don't recommend the ones that are fruit+nuts, because I thought I was getting chocolate covered strawberry almond clusters, and what I actually got was chocolate covered dried strawberries (too sweet) and separate, random almonds. If I wanted random almonds, I would...buy almonds.

Otoh, the dark chocolate rainsinettes are pretty awful - once you've had halfway decent chocolate you realize how terrible the raisinette chocolate is and bleh. Do not be fooled by fond memories of movie theater candy!

Lastly, I also tried the Russell Stover orange bites, because orange+chocolate is a great combination you don't see very often, but instead of being candied orange bits or candied orange peel, it's some kind of non-fruit gummy thing in the center. The orange flavor is almost like an aftertaste - you don't get it on the first bite but it lingers after. I was disappointed. I mean, if you want orange-flavor gummy things covered in chocolate that's fine - I like those chocolate-covered raspberry jellies well enough - but it wasn't what I was hoping for.

I caught up on some tv yesterday and geez, what a body horror fest.

But first, Arrow: Canary Cry
I don't know if it's the hiatuses or the writing or the fact that we'd been waiting for this death since the beginning of the season, but I felt really distanced from most of this episode. I did like some of the one-on-one character conversations, and I definitely felt moved by Quentin's and Dinah's grief, but I didn't cry until Ollie's eulogy (and I was really surprised that I did, and I mean full-on crying, not just tearing up, which was more about Black Canary as a hero than about Laurel Lance as a character on this show). I would have liked for it to be Sin who took on the Black Canary mantle, but maybe Sara can come back.

The less said the better about Ollie telling the girl that Black Canary wasn't a killer and stopping Digg from killing Ruve but then immediately he and Felicity are like, "WE ARE KILLING DARHK." Like, you know I'm okay with killing some dudes that just need killing in fiction, but a little bit of self-awareness would be nice.

The 100: Join or Die
I did not need to see Kane being crucified, show! Though I'm glad they got it right with the nails through the wrists instead of the hands. IJS.

I'm not sure what the point of the Pike flashbacks were. I would have preferred seeing Farm Station, honestly. Though I guess it was to allow for Murphy to be like, "We need him" when Indra was exacting her revenge.

I love that Luna's village is on the oil rig, though I was expecting Luna to be a black or biracial girl and was disappointed when she wasn't. The less said about how they're positioning Bellamy, the better. Like, wtf? Lincoln's death is Octavia's fault for not trusting his dumb ass?

Dear writers of the 100:

In order for any time of atonement or redemption or rehabilitation arc to work, the character has to actually own up to and take responsibility for the mistakes they made/terrible things they did. Bellamy demurring from the responsibility for participating in Pike's massacre of 299 sleeping allies and not even acknowledging that unlike, say, Clarke or Octavia or even Jasper, his loved one is still alive so he can make it up to her is not the way to redemption! Ugh. I wish Clarke had pointed that out to him instead of saying it would take time.

no love,

me

Orphan Black: The Stigmata of Progress
So here we don't get a crucifixion, which might have been expected from that title, but we do open with a needle to the eye and end with a worm inside a cheek, with a decomposing corpse in between, so thanks for that! *shudders*

I loved all the Helena-Donnie-Alison stuff. "You killed Aldous Leekie?" "Boy did I ever, yeah." ♥♥♥♥ If you had ever told me in s1 that Donnie would be the show's secret MVP, I would have thought you were crazy. I also loved that Helena doesn't want her babies to be raised like she was. Oh Helena.

And wow, every time I think they can't make Rachel's story more fucked up, they manage to up the level of fucked-up-ness. "You're the experiment. You're a disappointment." Well fuck you too lady. I can't believe they're making me sympathetic towards RACHEL of all people! I like that she was bonding with Charlotte even before she knew Charlotte was actually a clone of her (rather than from the original Kendall material) and I kind of want Kira and Charlotte to go off on their own genetically modified girls' adventure. (I'm not thrilled about Kira's Special Child abilities kicking in here, but maybe she's being controlled by her own cheek worm thing instead?)

Lastly, I really hope Felix's new sister is who she says she is and not some kind of Neolutionist plant or something.
