if your throat bleeds with brittle words

Last night, I came home, had a glass of wine with dinner, and was out like a light by 9:30 pm. My exciting life. Sigh.

Brooklyn Nine Nine: Holt's Nine Nine
HEIST EPISODE! IT'S AS IF THEY KNOW ME! I loved everything about the A plot (except maybe that Dennis Haysbert is a bad guy, because I really want him to recur!) and the Gina & Terry plot, and I liked the resolution of the Boyle plot but as always, his subplots are hit or miss for me, and I didn't love it. It's hilarious seeing Janice Soprano hit on him though.

Orphan Black: The Collapse of Nature
CLONE CLUB IS BACK! With a flashback episode centering on Beth! What an intriguing way to start the season. I did like how it filled in some stuff about her, though I'm not sure I buy her sleeping with Art, given how Art behaved in season 1 (I also didn't really buy that he was in love with her when they sprang that in season 3) but I want him to stick around so I guess I will roll with it. I also really liked how this reframes Paul, which I can be pleased about because he's dead and so not going to show up to bore us in the current narrative present. I liked the brief glimpses of Alison and Cosima - Beth seems to have had a much more businesslike relationship with them than Sarah does, and I kind of feel bad that Beth never got to really be part of Clone Club, but I'm very interested in seeing what happens with MK (Mika?). And of course, I want Krystal to come back, too.

I like that they're going back to basics with the Neolutionists as the villains, though I wish they'd drop the Kendall Malone thing since I thought that was a connection too far (or too close, as the case may be), but again, I guess I will accept it and move on. I'm definitely interested in seeing where this is going to go, at any rate.

Today's poem:

If Your Mirror Breaks
by Joy Kogawa

if when you are holding a
hand mirror when you are
sitting in the front seat of a car
and the mirror breaks
you must stop everything quickly
step on the brakes
leap from the car

if when you are holding in
your arms a mirror and you
feel the glass sudden in your veins
if your throat bleeds with
brittle words and
you hear in the distance the
ambulance siren

if your mirror breaks into
a tittering sound of tinkling glass
and you see the highway stretch
into a million staring splinters
you must stop everything gently
wait for seven long years
under a sky of whirling wheels

if your mirror breaks
oh if your mirror breaks
