an unbelievable opportunity to be at center stage

HOLY SHIT MAJOR. WHAT AN EPISODE. At the halfway point, I was sort of grumbling in disappointment, because it was too much procedural not enough arc, but then MAJOR happened. THAT ASSAULT ON MEAT CUTE. MY GOD, MAJOR.

And Liv made some poor choices, or, rather, she made some selfish choices, though I'm not sure zombiefying Major was necessarily *wrong* so much as it was a complete negation of what he would want in that situation. Otoh, given that he was dying and she had the ability to 'save' hm and let him make a decision about dying later, maybe it wasn't that wrong. Though turning someone into a brain-eating mostly dead person is kind of horrifying and who would agree to it? but also, he had every right to be angry not just about that but about all the deception and Liv making decisions for him for his own good. (Interestingly, I did see some pushback against him for it, which I didn't expect. I mean, I saw that Iris West was excoriated in certain parts of the internet for being angry at Barry for his similar behavior, while Foggy Nelson was lauded for being real and human and in touch with his feelings for having the same response to Matt Murdock, so I expected Major to be allowed to be angry in ways that Iris - a young woman of color - is not for some people, but no. There were folks who thought he was cruel and hurtful to Liv, whereas I just saw weariness and resignation in addition to anger.)

I like that she used the cure on him, too, and on Blaine, so I guess we'll see the side effects and consequences in s2. I thought it was a fitting climax to both Liv and Major's character arcs - he takes out the zombies that have been haunting him all season, and she has to face her own zombieism and how she's lied to and pushed away everyone close to her because of it. So while I would have been perfectly happy for her creepy younger brother to die somewhat randomly in the explosion, since I don't care about him as a character, the situation his grave injuries puts Liv in is great. (Though seriously, how does a hospital in a major metropolitan area not have any O- on hand? And also, how do they not send out to another hospital or blood bank for it? Especially since her mother seems pretty high-powered and well-connected in the medical community? Also, Liv can just say that she has hepatitis or recently got a tattoo or something and that would take care of that. But I realize those are the kinds of things requiring my suspension of disbelief and suspend it I mostly did.

The only thing I didn't like was the paucity of Ravi. More Ravi in season 2. Also, so many threads left open for s2. I guess Max Rager is the new big bad (or was the big bad the whole time, while Blaine was just the medium level bad) and Steven Weber is doing a great job creeping me the fuck out.

Alan Sepinwall has a cool interview with Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero-Wright about the season finale, and hints about s2.

I guess I wasn't meant to have great sleep two nights in a row, because I slept terribly last night, even though I was in bed by 11 and I had to get up an hour earlier than usual. I had a bunch of different terrible anxiety dreams, and also one about how Chris Evans was secretly pining for Scarlett Johansson since they did The Perfect Score together, but knew he'd screwed up his chance then when they'd hooked up and then he'd panicked and blown her off. And so now he consoles himself by banging hot starlets. All of which is completely fictional (well, I mean, I don't know if he's still dating Minka Kelly or if he's banging hot starlets, or if they hooked up all those years ago, nor do I want to know), but deep down, I ship them really hard! They're like the het Clooney/Pitt for me! I mean, I personally am not a big RPF person (and not even J2 converted me), but occasionally I do ship actors and ugh. Apparently my subconscious really likes making it melancholy. Which shouldn't really be a surprise, and yet. *hands*

Anyway, I got to work so early - I ended up on an express when the 1 was held in the station - that I stopped in at the World's Slowest StarbucksTM and it only took them SIX MINUTES to make my drink. The other day I was in there for more than fifteen minutes with the exact same beverage order. So I was in the office by 7:45 and it was wall to wall work all day. Bleh. I like to ease into my day, not walk into voicemails and emails that all need handling ASAP, plus I had a meeting at 8:30 am, which is why I was there so early to begin with. But it mostly all got taken care of, plus I was shown copies of the paperwork putting my raise into effect as of the next paycheck (which is next week), so yay!

In unrelated (I think?) news, I've had "Fly Like an Eagle" in my head for the past few days, so I finally looked it up on youtube and found a live version that was over eight minutes long. I listened to two minutes and thirty seconds and was like, "I'm good now. I'm done." Though I'm still humming "tick tock tick / do do doo doo" under my breath.

I wanna fly like an eagle to the sea
fly like an eagle, let my spirit carry me
