I've been less right than wrong

Work was ridiculously hectic on Thursday - the kind of day where it was 3:30 and I hadn't had lunch yet - and yesterday was more of the same, plus having to stay late to make sure things were ready for a meeting first thing Monday morning. So last night when I got home, changing into comfortable pants turned into a three hour nap, so when I woke up at 9:45 pm, I just said fuck it, brushed my teeth, and went to bed. And I slept pretty well until about 7 am, so that's when I got up. I don't often sleep 12 hours in a night, but sometimes it's just necessary.

When I got up, I watched this week's Legend of Korra, without knowing the story behind why it was a clip show (the short version: Nick slashed their budget mid-production, and it was either a clip show or laying people off early, so I'm glad they went with the clip show, even though I think it could have been much more cleverly done). With that said, it's still a clip show, and not of a quality with "The Ember Island Players." If they had let Varrick frame the whole thing as a possible Nuktuk mover, then that might have worked. As it was, even seeing Wu, Tu, and Grandma call Mako out on his poor relationship handling didn't negate the chill I felt at the idea the show might go back to Mako/Korra in the end. I suppose I should be prepared for it, since they went with Katara/Aang in the original series, even though that was not what I considered the best choice. They're not at their best writing romance, but the villain party line section almost made up for everything else. Not even other villains like Unalaq! Hee! Hopefully the plot will get back on track next week.

As for Elementary, I don't really have much to say about this episode except that I really enjoyed it, especially CLYDE! and also the fact that Joan was only a couple seconds behind me in exclaiming, "He's quoting The Terminator!" I did get a bad feeling about her boyfriend in that last scene though. I loved Sherlock's speech to her about how he does like Andrew because Andrew understands the connect he (Sherlock) and Joan have, and how important Joan is to him (Sherlock), especially after he included Joan in with his mother and Moriarty as the only people he's ever loved. Oh show.

This afternoon, L. and I went to see Birdman, which was pretty interesting, though the ending didn't work for me at all. If he didn't kill himself by jumping off that building - and he didn't really fly, as shown by the cabbie wanting to get paid - then there's no way it doesn't end with him as street pizza, rather than the implication that Sam is seeing him fly away. I just feel like the gunshot onstage should have been the end of it, maybe a shot of the front page of the Times the next day. *hands* I guess I didn't really understand what the point was of that or any of the bits where he appeared to have superpowers. I thought it just meant he was delusional. But it's a pretty funny movie, and Keaton and Norton have some great scenes together.
