Say a prayer for the common foot soldier

+ Last night, I dreamt that Tony, Pepper, and I were sorting through some old shuttered Stark mansion and discovered Howard had participated in genetic engineering to reproduce dinosaurs. STARK INDUSTRIES DINOSAURS. Give me that Jurassic Park crossover now, please and thank you.

- In less fun and more enraging comics news, David Goyer needs to be taken out back and poked with sharp sticks, or at least never be allowed near a comic book movie again. Sadly, he's involved in the Sandman adaptation as well as Superman vs. Batman. #DC LOOK AT YOUR LIFE. LOOK AT YOUR CHOICES. (I guess the best I can hope for is that he does not come near Arrow, or The Flash, which is looking kind of adorable, as well. I still haven't decided how I feel about Gotham, but he should stay away from it too, just on general principle.)

+ AV Club did a 10 episodes you should watch for The West Wing, and though I don't agree with all the choices (WHY WOULD YOU PUT "ISAAC AND ISHMAEL" ON THERE AND LEAVE OFF "CELESTIAL NAVIGATION" OR "NOEL"?), I enjoyed reading it. Also, I mentioned this during my rewatch last year, it really is worth rewatching seasons 6 and 7, especially once the campaign stuff kicks in. (S5 is still terrible, with a couple of exceptions.) And there's the requisite quoting in the comments. Today, this is the one that made me cry: Leo: A podium is a holy place for him, he makes it his own like it's an extension of his body. You ever see a pitcher work the mound so the dirt does exactly what his feet want it to do? That's the President. He sees it as a genuine opportunity to change minds. Also as his best way of contributing to the team. He likes teams. I love him so much. (Bartlet for America)
♥LEO♥

- I hope my period comes soon (it's 5 days late), because otherwise there might be no food left in NYC. I will have eaten it all. Ugh.

+ I could inundate you with all my Rangers feels, but I won't. I'm still trying to figure out how to talk about how what's happened/happening without turning into an uplifting but fake-sounding story, you know? I think the team and the media both have walked a fine line there, and so far they haven't fallen on the wrong side of it, possibly because St. Louis himself has been so ...gracious, but it's tricky territory to negotiate. So instead, I'll just link to this piece from the other day, about the lengthy friendship between St. Louis and Brad Richards, which goes back to 2000, when they were both on Tampa Bay. (Do I have to warn that that links to the NY POST? Because consider that as a warning. It is indeed the Post.) (Okay, and one more hockey link, about Chris Kreider coming into his own.)

+ What I'm reading Wednesday:

What I've just finished

Rites of Spring: The Great War and the Birth of the Modern Age by Modris Eksteins, which is really fascinating. So much so that I actually got off the train one stop early because I was thinking about it and not paying close attention, and had to get back on the train because I realized I was in the wrong place! (I literally finished the book at Houston Street and put my iPad away, and then got off the train at Canal, where I was like, "This doesn't look right...OH!" and hopped back on before the doors closed.) Anyway! It's about the cultural/societal zeitgeist in the years preceding WWI and then about how that atmosphere + the horrific nature of WWI led to a climate where fascism could rise during the inter-war period.

I would recommend it, but only if you already have some overall knowledge of the wars, because it takes as given that you're familiar with them.

What I'm reading now/next

I don't know! I never know! Possibly a reread of Small Gods while I decide what new thing to read next.
