Good morning, internets!
My nephew Victor and I have this tradition of attempting (and failing miserably, both with from-scratch recipes and mixes) to make gingerbread at Christmastime. We haven't done it the past couple of years, but this year we are getting back on the horse. So please bring me your best gingerbread recipes, tips, and tricks!
(the funniest part of this is that it is now just sheer cussedness that makes us want to do it; neither of us actually likes gingerbread, if we ever even did before the multiple humiliating failures. but we are bound and determined to make it happen.)
Today, however, I will hopefully be less full of fail as I will be making
coffee ice cream for Nicki and
peanut butter ice cream for Tricia (per their respective birthday requests). And not to worry, I will make the coffee ice cream first and in a different freezer bowl from the PB, since Nicki is allergic to PB. (Dad and I are heading over to my brother's tomorrow to watch the Giants play the Cowboys.)
And since I will have egg whites left over, I might attempt
these espresso meringues, since I haven't really made meringues before and they seem like a good first step before attempting macarons.
We'll see how it goes. First I have to get my dad out of the house and to the supermarket.
