in your ashes and your smoke

While I won't be able to see it until tonight when I get home, the Captain America/Winter Soldier trailer goes live today at 12 pm ET/9 am PT. I AM EXCITE. (Here is the teaser trailer from last night.)

eta: and a link to the trailer so I don't have to go looking for it later. /eta

HOLY CATS YOU GUYS CHRIS EVANS LOOKS AMAZING IN THE COMMANDER ROGERS UNIFORM. IT IS THE BEST UNIFORM NO LIE. Hopefully the helmet is better than the awfulness from The Avengers, too. (When this movie was still unconfirmed and just fannish spec, I tagged all my Commander Rogers posts with "please let Chris Evans wear this uniform in a movie someday." WHO KNEW SOMEDAY WAS NOW?)

How soon is too soon to have an icon of him in this uniform?

Here are two gif sets from the teaser. WALK WALK FASHION BABY.

SAM "THE FALCON" WILSON looking damn fine in his leather outfit.

THE WINTER SOLDIER/BLACK WIDOW EDIT. TWO THIRDS OF AN OT3! GIVE ME ALL THE DEPARTMENT X/RED ROOM BACKSTORY. FORBIDDEN LOVE AFFAIRS. MAKING EACH OTHER HUMAN. NATASHA CALLING BUCKY AN IDIOT.

Dear Marvel, please give me the Steve/Bucky/Natasha movie of my DREAMS. Including all permutations (e.g., Steve/Bucky, Steve/Natasha, Bucky/Natasha) because I OT3 them SO HARD.

BUCKY BARNES HAS A ROBOT ARM. DAMN SON HE DIDN'T EVEN FLINCH. BLESS THE FX PEOPLE ON THIS MOVIE. (a smaller, faster gif of the same thing.) ALL STEVE'S BUCKY FEELS. ALL OF THEM. I CAN'T EVEN. EPIC TRAGIC CENTURY LONG LOVE STORY OF MY HEART. *SOBS BROKENLY AND FLIES INTO THE SUN*

Also, "This isn't freedom. It's fear." OH STEVE.

IS IT APRIL 4, 2014 YET? GIVE IT TO ME.

please don't suck!

ahem.

I can only hope the movie is as exciting as the ten second teaser trailer.

At some point when I am less squeeful, I'll talk about Kevin Feige's dumbass remarks about lady superhero movies, but I just want to bask in squee for a bit.

Arrow: Broken Dolls

The number of references to stuff in the DCU in this episode made my little fangirl heart so happy. Sigh.

BLACK CANARY HAS THE CANARY CRY. The handheld sonic thinger is a great way to get around having her have superpowers, and I believe Dinah used something like that in the early days of Birds of Prey, before she got the scream back.

Speaking of DCU refs and BoP, I might have shrieked in glee when Roy chased Sin (please let me believe this is a reference to Sin Lance) into the clocktower. ORACLE'S MOTHERFUCKING CLOCKTOWER, Y'ALL.

ALSO HOLY CATS BLACK CANARY IS RUNNING FROM RA'S AL GHUL AND THE LEAGUE OF ASSASSINS (...maybe she's Cheshire after all? Otoh, rumor has it she's Sara Lance). MALCOLM MERLYN WAS IN THE LEAGUE. HE MET A MAN IN NANDA PARBAT. SO MUCH IS EXPLAINED ABOUT EVERYTHING NOW. (though they still pronounced "Ra's" wrong.) I've seen spec that 1. they got an actor of actual Arab descent to play him (the dude who plays Abu Nazir on Homeland?) or 2. that Summer Glau's character is actually Talia (which is less awesome, except for how she would kick Ollie's ass but be an occasional reluctant ally).

I don't know how they're going to do all this without mentioning Batman, but I am down for it.

I feel like my weariness and anger about using dead girls as plot props is somewhat ameliorated in this episode because I don't feel like there was any real torture porn - the girls were fully dressed and barely seen - though they were used to fuel Detective Lance's manpain. OH my god, Paul Blackthorne! He is like in some other more hardboiled show altogether, and yet he amuses me tremendously and last night I felt for him, so he can stay.

I have to believe he's smart enough to know that Ollie is the Arrow (as he called him last night) and, like Jim Gordon before him, he just prefers to act like he doesn't know, to save everyone a headache. Because the fact that Oliver Queen's IT girl/PA and driver are in league with the Arrow otherwise strains credulity.

I'm glad Laurel realized she was displacing her guilt onto Ollie, but I feel like she could have discovered it in a less awful fashion. I mean, she was wrong, but she didn't deserve to literally be almost turned into a dead plastic doll to get the point across. I still don't know how they're going to fix the problems with her character, but I hope they manage it.

Oh, Moira. *sniff*

On flashback island - Slade was ON FIRE. LITERALLY. Is that how he loses the eye? I hope this isn't what makes him turn bad and hate Ollie - he didn't have to choose to follow Ollie down to where things were being bombed, after all. I don't want him to be a black hat. Can't he just be a morally grey merc? Who maybe sometimes kills people for money? Also, I've seen spec that Shado returns as a villain, but I still hope that she'll turn out to be like Cass Cain.

Other DCU refs: the prison ship Ollie was on was the AMAZO. Both the room number and Det. Lance's call number were 52 (his was DC52). The lawyer's name was Tony Daniel! And of course, the Doll-maker is a known DC villain - I thought he was one of Batman's (the creepiest ones usually are) but I am all for having him be in Ollie's rogue's gallery even though I hope we never see him again. There might have been others, but those are the ones I recognized. (Also, last week's nasty alderman was Brother Blood! He was a Teen Titans villain, iirc, so will Roy be involved in taking him down?)

I don't know how this show managed to get so good, but I'm so glad it did.
