It's time for the Wednesday book meme!

What I've just finished

I read Bee Ridgway's The River of No Return over the holiday weekend. I really liked it for the most part, but I should warn you that it is the first book in what is probably a trilogy or series, which I did not know going in, so while a couple of plotlines wrap up, the overarching plot does not. Which is really fucking annoying, and I don't think it's indicated anywhere, though I could be wrong, since I read it as an ebook, and also couldn't remember exactly what it was about - I put a hold on it at the library after reading someone's description, but all I remembered was something something Regency England, so I thought it was going to be one of those generational sagas and was quite pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be a time travel book with some romance thrown in. And then, as I say, less pleasantly surprised when it was clear that the main storyline wasn't going to be finished by the end of the book.

What I'm reading now

I'm 40% through The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson, which I put down when I got distracted by The River of No Return (and how weird is it to list it in percentages rather than page numbers? but that is how the kindle gives it to me), and it's okay. I think the author thinks he's funnier/more clever than I think he is, and I can tell I'm not really into it because I don't immediately pull it out to read whenever I have a moment, but I guess I will finish it since it's somewhat amusing.

What I'm reading next

I have The Fifth Wave and The Red Pyramid from the library, so those are probably next. And then the rest of the Kane Chronicles. if I like the first one, plus I still have the third Cold Magic book and The Ocean at the End of the Lane, plus a couple of books I picked up when Amazon had a $1-for-kindle sale - they look like trashy thrillers and I'm all over that for train reading.

Last night, with the last Christmas gift certificate I had left, I ordered a Roku 3. I went with that over the Sony Media Player, because it looks like Sony no longer sells/supports the one I was interested in (I could only find things that were built into blu-ray players, and I already have one of those) and Roku also plays sports stuff if you subscribe, plus it was on sale and also gift certificate and free shipping! So with the HDMI cable, I think I paid $35. Now, hopefully I can get it all hooked up and it will work. I'm sure I'll be posting about it one way or another when it finally arrives.
