So yesterday at work we had the all staff meeting where they discussed the furlough program that will be put into effect in May unless the government can get its act together regarding sequestration. All we know right now is that we'll be furloughed every Friday beginning sometime in May for a currently unknown number of weeks, which will hopefully ( Read more... )

Ack, sorry about the furlough. Hope you can manage financially, but, hey, so many three-days weekends!

Sweetie,

Have you ever thought about getting something like a Roku box for your tv? It includes stuff like Hulu, Netflix, and a ton of other stations, most of them free. We've got subscriptions to Hulu and Netflix and they're both only about $8.00 a month each which is way cheaper than even basic cable.

Sorry to hear about the furlough, V. So frustrating, these self-imposed crises, here and in Europe. You know what would really encourage bipartisan cooperation and progress on the budget? Cutting *congressional* salaries, rather than everyone else's... M.

Thanks! And yeah, can we maybe not pay Congress until they fix this? I would be up for that 100%.

Sorry about the furlough, I think that if there is going to be furloughs it should apply to the President, Senate and Congress they should take a 20% pay cut as well.

As to saving money we had to cut things seriously and one thing was cutting Dish Network. We got a Digital Antenna for locals(we get like 15 locals) and a Roku Box which I highly recommend. Between the two we paid about $150 one time cost. We pay 8.00 a month for Netflix and have Amazon Prime(for the free shipping) which also has free shows.

I agree! I think Congress shouldn't get paid until they fix this!

Cool. I'm definitely going to look into that. Thanks.
