my wait-up-until

So I did a little internet research (thank you, Consumer Reports) and then stopped off at Best Buy last night after work, and now I will have a new Toshiba 32" LCD* television on Tuesday (which was the one I'd walked in looking for, so...), with a new blu-ray player (also the one I'd researched), both on sale, and they will take the old one away. Even with tax, delivery, haul-away fee, an 8' HDMI cable, the stupid 2yr extended warranty I know is useless but paid $30 for anyway, and an Avengers blu-ray, the whole shebang was STILL less than I paid for the tv I have now. (And yes, I would rather pay Best Buy $30 [and tip each delivery guy] to take the television away than deal with strangers via freecycle or craigslist.)

Afterwards, I stopped off at Shake Shack (remarkably empty for 6:30 at night) for a burger to celebrate. Now I just have to hope they actually show up on Tuesday, since I am taking a day off. (Best Buy would have delivered on Saturday - would have delivered today if I'd agreed - but I didn't want to have the new TV sitting around for days while the old TV was taking up space, and the haul-away service isn't coming until Tuesday. I don't really have room for that. Hopefully it will all be done on Tuesday and as a bonus, I will get rid of a lot of crap this weekend in an effort to make my apartment look less like something out of Hoarders. Mostly I care about getting rid of the old tv, if you can't tell. I'm kind of fixated. I can carry the new one home myself if I have to, i.e., if the delivery doesn't actually happen as scheduled.)

*The LED model looked way oversaturated to me, which made everything look really fake and CGI'd.

So I recently read Libriomancer by Jim C. Hines. I enjoyed it, though I guess I wanted more of Isaac pulling stuff out of familiar books and less of him possessing a steampunkish robot and going to the moon (that was the big WTF? moment for me; really? REALLY?).

I also read Simply Unforgettable by Mary Balogh, which clearly was not, because I almost forgot to include it in this entry. I enjoyed the first part of the book where the hero and heroine (Lucius and...Frances, I think) are stranded together at an abandoned inn during a blizzard, but then there were a lot of generic shenanigans that weren't really memorable. *hands* It was enjoyable while I was reading it, but nothing I would reread.

Now I'm reading Midnight Riot by Ben Aaronovitch, which is really fucking fantastic so far (not done yet, so no spoilers, please), so thanks to those of you who mentioned it; I don't think I'd have picked it up otherwise. I don't get why they changed the title in the US - Rivers of London is a much better title - but the book itself is fun - funny, fast-paced, a little gory. I'm close to the end, so I hope Aaronovitch doesn't botch the dismount, but right now, all I want to do is read this book, and then the next one.
