maybe i set myself up for the kill

I know I have only myself to blame when I read things that I'm pretty sure are just going to make me ragey, and I'm pretty good about not doing that because I have enough rage in my life without seeking it out, but yesterday, the #0 issue of the rebooted World's Finest came out and I couldn't resist. I mean, I am angry that the Huntress I know and love is gone, but I could get behind Helena Wayne, especially if they were going to explore her life as raised by her actual parents, i.e., Selina Kyle and Bruce Wayne, and her stint as Robin (I still don't know if this is before or after Dick, but I'm guessing after? because otherwise, where did the name Robin come from?), and her friendship with Supergirl (and of course I kind of ship it on principle).

Well. If that is what World's Finest #0 had been, I would have been happy. Needless to say, it was not. SO NOT ONLY IS LOIS DEAD ON EARTH 2, BUT THEY KILLED OFF SELINA TOO? CAN'T HAVE THOSE PESKY WIMMEN AROUND, ROMANTICALLY ENTANGLING OUR BROODY GRIMDARK HEROES NOW, CAN WE? UGH UGH UGH SO GROSS YOU GUYS. SO ENRAGING. ALL THE FUN PARTS OF HELENA BEING THE DAUGHTER OF THE BAT AND THE CAT ARE COMPLETELY UNDERCUT BY SELINA BEING MURDERIZED. SO ANGRY. I mean, maybe if I'd actually read any of the other issues, I'd have already known this? BUT I DID NOT. AND IT MADE ME RAGEY. I'm so glad I didn't pay money for it.

Ahem.

I also read Hawkeye #2, and as promised, Kate Bishop does show up. ♥KATE♥ Unfortunately, the art for her is kind of really terrible? She doesn't seem to have a face. Or rather, she has a face but no expressions? I don't even know what that's about, but it was unfortunate. Also, hey, did you know Clint Barton was raised in the circus? *rolls eyes* Okay, it's not as egregious as the rebooted Nightwing, which spent SEVERAL ISSUES reiterating this basic fact of Dick Grayson's life, and I imagine lots of people coming to this new book from the movies don't know that about Clint, so I will let it slide, but it did make me laugh and roll my eyes. Anyway! I enjoyed it, though as I said, the art works for Clint but it doesn't work for Kate, because she didn't look like a person, let alone like herself as I am familiar with her. I liked how definite he was about how awesome she is, though I laughed and laughed at his "I want you to work with me because I don't want to sleep with you." and her response: "So you want to sleep with Spider-man?" (Well, WHO DOESN'T, amirite?)

Also, completely tangentially, Clint's discussion of the hobo code made me think of Steve's "WE COULD BE HOBOES" from Man Out of Time, which will never not be a gloriously over the top declaration of love for Bucky. ♥

ANYWAY. Kate got to be awesome, even if she didn't get to have a face or expressions, Clint is much more fun when he's got someone to play off than when he's by himself, and I enjoyed reading about it.

Oy, work. The week's almost over, right?
