This morning on the news, there was a story about some guy's iPhone ringing during the NY Philharmonic (no, I can't believe it made the news either, but I guess the conductor stopping the orchestra because of someone's ringing phone is something that doesn't happen all that often), and normally, I'd just be like, "What a tool! "My friend, it is a most wonderful invention. Each one of them has an identification number, and if you press these buttons, you tell the machine to contact the machine with that number." Thor demonstrates on his own phone, which is a little confusing for Steve, because instead of numbers, the buttons have runes on them. Steve doesn't quite know how to tell Thor that he knows what phones are, and that these are just pocket-size phones. Disappointing Thor is sort of like denying ice cream to a little kid: It may be for the best, but you still feel bad about it.

Thor finishes pressing buttons and holds the phone to his ear; the bottom edge of the phone barely reaches his jaw. After a few seconds, he shouts, "Friend Clint! I am demonstrating to Steve Rogers the operation of his cell phone!" He pauses, continuing in a voice that's marginally quieter. "What is my 'inside voice'? But I am... Yes! Tonight we will dine well! I have discovered a marvelous ale I must share with you!" Thor presses a button on the phone and looks over at Steve. "Of course, if your friend does not have a cell phone, you will not be able to contact him," he says seriously. "For some time, Agent Coulson claimed he did not own one, so I could not contact him. When I told Tony this, he laughed and made it so Son of Coul is first in my directory -- did you know Tony can read runes? -- and so now I call Agent Coulson very often."
