what fools these mortals be

Deathly Hallows Part 1 last night with many, many fangirls. I enjoyed it. I thought it ended in a logical spot. I mean, I figured Shell Cottage would be the smart place, so it made sense to me to end it there.

My two favorite things: Hermione's bottomless purse, and the Deathly Hallows shadow puppets. Man, they could have done the whole movie as shadow puppets like that, with some eerie narration, and I would have loved it. That was worth the price of admission on its own. I thought Bellatrix's torture of Hermione was chilling and well-done, as well.

Ron! ♥

Okay, the Harry/Hermione dance scene was hilarious, and I can't tell if it was meant to be or not. I also laughed hard at the horcrux's Harmonian porno for Ron, which I don't think I was supposed to, but since it also made me say, "Oh, Ron," I guess that's all right. Mostly because I abhor Harry/Hermione as a pairing without Ron involved. Oddly enough, I thought this movie had some serious Harry/Ron subtext that I hadn't noticed in previous movies, possibly because they don't look like little boys anymore.

Luna Lovegood's dad was way more attractive than I'd pictured him (Rhys Ifans! No wonder! I couldn't place him during the movie and it was driving me nuts), and hello, head snatcher dude, I'm sure there will be people slashing you left and right with everybody

We sat in the theatre as the credits rolled, and there were a group of people credited as "Drapesmasters," and I had a "WAH SIRIUS" moment. I don't think I've ever forgiven her for that, and for his shabby treatment afterwards.

After the movie, we went to Veselka for food - we had to wait about half an hour, but they finally sat us all together, and I had tasty potato pancakes, and it was good.

As for last night's Supernatural, what with all the cable box shenanigans here, I never remembered to set it to record, so I had to dl it this morning.

For all of the hilarity - and there definitely was some - so much of it felt out of character; Dean being chased by the stocking-capped fairy felt right out of Yellow Fever, and how could two guys raised in the hunting life NOT know that salt, iron, and silver have an effect on fairies. I just could not believe that. And also that Dean's fingerprints didn't give him away as not dead and oh yeah, still on the Most Wanted list. Whatever, show.

Otoh, all of Dean's reactions to Sam tonight, and his reactions to being abducted, were hilarious. And the X-Files homage in the credits! ♥ Though I'm sad they couldn't work Mitch Pileggi in there somehow.

The problem for me is that I can't reconcile this show with the show I loved for five seasons. There are glimmers of the old show, but it's still a few steps off from what it was, enough to make me unhappy with it even as I'm laughing. So, you know, I don't know what to do with that.

I think I'm just going to lounge around today and catch up on the rest of the TV I'm behind on. Two weeks' worth of FNL and The Good Wife. I should probably get some chocolate to deal with that.
