and ask forgiveness for future mistakes

I said last night I wasn't going to share my thoughts on this particular go-round of yuletide wank, because taglines are way more fun, but there are a couple of things that kind of rub me the wrong way ( Read more... )

I think if the mods were better at PR, there would be a lot less grousing. The poor communication and the fact that non-mods were policing the comments exacerbated a situation that could have been ameliorated with better communication. It's great to rule with an iron fist, but it's best not to forget the velvet glove.

It reminds me a lot of Livejournal, actually!

no one thought to mention that to me?

Er, because I didn't know it was a real place? (says the English girl). There are some scans from it here. He became the curator for a bit and got lots of meta superheroes to design and build his secret lair for him in a weekend or something.

Heh. Not only is it a real place, the story Dick tells in the scans about buying up the land across the river is true! Except that it was the Rockefellers.

You know, I have less difficulty imagining a superhero lair there than I do the idea that Bruce just bought him a job as a curator.

Except that it was the Rockefellers.

That explains why that whole exchange seemed so random. It didn't seem to have much relevence to the plot but makes more sense if it actually happened.

I work in a museum and I was also baffled by Bruce buying him the job, and also that Dick would let him do it. He's worked hard for his previous jobs and people in that sort of job usually have worked in curation for years and/or have several higher degrees. I guess if it was "For The Mission"...

Yes. I mean, tour guide, fundraiser, security guard, gift shop proprietor - I would buy any of those, but curator is kind of a job that requires a lot of specialized training.

Though now I'm imagining Dick wearing a tweedy blazer and lecturing on medieval architecture and getting the same response as Indiana Jones from his students. possibly this made me just snicker out loud in glee at my desk.

Ha! I totally forgot about the bit where Dick was a "curator" there. I probably put it out of my mind, because that storyline featured Talia and I hate her with the fire of a thousand fiery suns.

But it was intensely cute and featured Smart!Dick, which always makes me happy. Yeah, he's not just a pretty face.

I like that you put curator in quotes, because I have to admit that made me go o.O. Didn't he drop out of college in the comics? It's kind of hinky for Bruce to buy him a job like that.

Bruce didn't buy it for him, he bought it himself :D The part I liked best was when we saw him taking the job seriously and doing the work. ::loves::

I think I stopped buying Nightwing around that time, so I don't remember when he left.

I didn't realize he had that kind of money.

I can imagine that would be lovely, despite my side-eyes at him getting the job at all.

Adding volunteers also means adding work for the mods, in terms of organizing them and making use of their work

I think it adds a bit of work at the beginning, which can then be handed off to someone else whose sole job is handling volunteers. I mean, there are ways to do it. It's not like the issue is going to go away, because even with all this going on, I don't think it's going to get much smaller going forward.

If the mods are happy with the way things are--that is, if their feeling is, "It's obscure enough for us"--then, well, what's the problem? If that's the case, and it may well be, then they should say that upfront, and not make it an item that appears to be up for discussion, but isn't when people raise concerns ( ... )

even when you turn to recruiting volunteers, you're only going to have so many resources

Absolutely, but the fact is that they don't seem to be recruiting ANY volunteers for ANY purpose. That I have seen, anyway. That's fine if they want to do it that way, but then not having time to do everything they feel needs doing isn't an unexpected outcome, and my sympathy for complaints of that nature erodes.

As I said in the post, it's their ficathon and they can do what they like with it, but I would think avoiding this kind of agita would be preferable, and better communication would partly solve that issue. Haters gonna hate, but there's no point in handing them the ammo yourself and then standing in the crosshairs.

I actually thought Walternate somehow zapped the pieces from his side to the other side. It's always cool to see Marshall, sucked when Fauxlivia killed him -- though I do wonder if she remembered that Walter can access his hard drive, I mean obviously he'd have intel on her in there.

I was really hoping when Peter asked her the numbers, she'd be unable to remember them. Damn.

I'm pretty sure that's why he went out a window - the hard drive was smashed.

I was really hoping when Peter asked her the numbers, she'd be unable to remember them.

I think he was still tipped off by how long it took her to do it.

I just rewatched and I must have zoned out because I didn't see the scene where Peter went for the hard drive and saw it was smashed. oops. So yeah, she took care of it, damn I was hoping she slipped up big, hee.

Well, she slipped up with Nina re: Walter, and with Peter re: Markham (at least - I don't know if that actually is how Olivia takes her coffee), so I think she's going to get caught fairly soon anyway.
