As far as "Augustine" goes, I've seen live versions where she talks about reading the "Confessions" in undergrad and being inspired by the idea of faith, even if she isn't religious. And then the idea for the song had the piano part that sounds like churchbells.

I agree about what the song can do-- it was on my soundtrack to get me through a really bad time last fall. It just takes root somewhere and doesn't let go.
