Day 19 - Best TV show cast

Oh, man, how to choose. I mean, obviously, I could just go with Homicide, because how fantastic is the cast? Will Andre Braugher ever get a chance to shine the way he did as Pembleton? Even when they swapped out Bolander and Felton for Kellerman, I still love the cast. (Admittedly, I love Kellerman a lot more than a lot of people do.) It's only when they added Falsone and Ballard that things go so very, very wrong.

And then there's The Wire, with its huge sprawling cast that changes but never diminishes, always fantastic and always bringing the goods when it counts.

There's BSG, which is another large cast that was always up for anything and handled what they were given with aplomb.

And, of course, Firefly, one of the only shows ever where I liked everyone in the main cast (though I liked some more than others, and had to have some time to come around to liking Inara after writing her off as "Lana Lang in space" during the show's actual airing).

Then I thought of Sports Night, because it really does have a fantastic cast, even if I sometimes want to punch Casey in the throat. (I like Casey. I do! Mostly. Just not nearly as much as I like everyone else.)

Of shows I'm currently watching, I think you could argue the current configuration of Criminal Minds (that is being fucked with by CBS, thanks for nothing) or the cast of Fringe are both pretty fantastic.

But I think my answer to this question has to be The West Wing. They worked together brilliantly, and I get all teary just thinking about how perfect they were together - CJ and Toby and Sam and Josh and Donna and Ainsley and Jed and Abbey and LEO and Margaret and Danny and Charlie and Zoey and Ron Butterfield and Mrs. Landingham and Nancy McNally and Admiral Fitzwallace and Ed and Larry... There was just no one who didn't fit in - I might not have loved Will or Kate the way I loved other characters, but other than Mandy and Amy, everyone always felt like they belonged where they were. Plus, they cast Alan Alda as the Republican candidate who actually appealed to democrats!
