we'll fill our mouths with cinnamon

This morning I posted a ficlet about Kay Howard for halfamoon ( Shutdown), and on Sunday, Alan Sepinwall had a great post commemorating Homicide, aka, The Best Damn Show on Television, and honestly, in terms of American network television, I think maybe Friday Night Lights comes close, and the first two seasons of West Wing, and the first three seasons of BtVS, but HLotS went five seasons before things starting going downhill (I actually started watching it in s5, so I have more fondness for that season than a lot of people do, despite the major flaws in it, which sow the seeds of a lot of what goes wrong in seasons 6 and 7 *cough*Dullzone*cough*). I don't think any other show has been as consistently smart and well-written and well-acted and unpredictable as HLotS was in its first three seasons, and say what you will about season 4, it has some spectacular episodes (and despite everything, I love Kellerman). And even in seasons 6 and 7, there is some wheat amongst the chaff. Plus, there is always Munch. ♥

HLotS was also my first online fandom and I wax nostalgic about alt.tv.homicide occasionally - it was a great place to get started online, I think. I mean, obviously, I only know my own experience, but before it went down in a morass of dickery and flamewars, it was a smart, fun, great place to hang out. (According to the comments on that Sepinwall post, a lot of the old ath folks have found each other on Facebook, but since I refuse to get on Facebook, I guess I won't be joining them.)

Anyway, if you have some time and you are looking for an amazing television watching experience, you should check out seasons 1 and 2 (s1 is 9 episodes and s2 is only 4 episodes), especially the pilot, "Gone for Goode." One of the best tv pilots EVER. And the amazing thing about the show is that it really does follow Tim Bayliss from his very first day on the squad, all the way from fresh-faced eager rookie to jaded veteran and... well, to say more would be to spoil.

Speaking of Tim Bayliss, Kyle Secor was a guest star on tonight's White Collar. I may have squeed and clapped when his name came up.

Peter is the only one Neal trusts, which necessitated Peter doing some neck-touching with his magic hands. Also, I don't see how people can slash Peter/Neal without having El involved, because Peter and El are SO AWESOME OMG. El laughing at his flirtation attempts! But being honestly upset about the touching, which is totally understandable.

Plus, this episode had June! We love June! She should be in every episode.

Needless to say, I enjoyed that very much.

I spent the two hours before the show came on making lemon mousse. Which I will post about as soon as I get the pictures all edited and uploaded.
