too long i've been afraid of losing love

Nov 11, 2009 23:02

They carried all the emotional baggage of men who might die. Grief, terror, love, longing-these were intangibles, but the intangibles had their own mass and specific gravity, they had tangible weight. They carried shameful memories. They carried the common secret of cowardice barely restrained, the instinct to run or freeze or hide, and in many respects this was the heaviest burden of all, for it could never be put down, it required perfect balance and perfect posture. They carried their reputations. They carried the soldier's greatest fear, which was the fear of blushing. Men killed, and died, because they were embarrassed not to. It was what had brought them to the war in the first place, nothing positive, no dreams of glory or honor, just to avoid the blush of dishonor. They died so as not to die of embarrassment. They crawled into tunnels and walked point and advanced under fire. Each morning, despite the unknowns, they made their legs move. They endured. They kept humping. They did not submit to the obvious alternative, which was simply to close the eyes and fall. So easy, really. Go limp and tumble to the ground and let the muscles unwind and not speak and not budge until your buddies picked you up and lifted you into the chopper that would roar and dip its nose and carry you off to the world. A mere matter of falling, yet no one ever fell. It was not courage, exactly; the object was not valor. Rather, they were too frightened to be cowards.

Thank you to everyone who's served in the past, who is serving now, and who will serve in the future, and to their families and loved ones, as well.

Criminal Minds

Gavin Rossdale singing Love Will Tear Us Apart! That is kind of awesome, despite his Joker-like makeup job. And hey, it's Livingston Dell as his manager dude!

Ooh, freaky broken mirror shots.

I guess every show does a fake vampire/goth culture episode, and none of them ever live up to "Lie to Me." I guess because that had real vampires and showed how unglamorous their unlives are.

Ooh, Livingston is in cahoots with the friend. And JJ saves the day! One of the things I love about this show is that even when she was hit in the head with a shovel, JJ still managed to get up and get the drop on the bad guy.

So I guess Morgan can't flirt with Garcia anymore now that he's the boss, huh? I am sad, because I love their flirty banter. Let Hotch go back to being charge soon!

Since when are there boys in the Cheerios?

Man, Puck and Quinn have some hot chemistry.

I'm not sure what the big deal is about giving Kurt a part in the song - there are two vocals. Admittedly the Glinda vocal is secondary and minor, but still, Shuester could have headed the whole thing off. I mean, Kristen Chenoweth sang the smaller part, after all. There's no shame in it. Otoh, Kurt's dad is AWESOME. ("the Koolaid or the Hi C or the whatever" heh.) And then Kurt throws the audition to protect his dad. Aw, the Hummels. ♥

Ahahahahahaha Puck! ♥

Man, Sue putting Becky on Cheerios can't end well. Oh my god, Sue. I wondered if they were going to do something like that, because otherwise...yeah. Wow.

Oh, man, Artie and Tina are so sweet and then, BAM. She drops that bombshell and it hurts both of them. But! They and Mercedes get to sing the lead in a KICKASS version of Proud Mary. Which is not on the soundtrack I dl'd. Huh. I also liked Artie's version of Dancin' with Myself, but just as a song, that can't compete with Proud Mary or Defying Gravity, both of which I adore.

I also enjoyed the principal in this. He is awesome.

Wow, I think this is possibly the best episode yet. Huh. I did not expect that.

So Fox has canceled Dollhouse, which is no surprise, but honestly? If they were going to give us 13 episodes of something and then cancel it, I would have much preferred Sarah Connor Chronicles. The worst part, though, is that we're going to have to hear from crazy Joss fans about how persecuted he is. Which, whatever. He was dumb to go back into business with Fox after Firefly, but honestly the show was pretty dire most of the time. At least it was last season, except for a couple of episodes and Epitaph One. So I'm not really crying for him, you know?

There's still time to sign up for Broken Toys, the Dark Angel ficathon
ranalore and I are running. I won't be doing the matching until tomorrow morning, if you want to sneak in there and sign up on the over night. Though as I mentioned yesterday, it is a very Max, Alec, and OC-centric bunch of participants, so if you are looking for Max/Logan, that's probably not going to happen.
